Cholesterol and Diet

Cholesterol and Diet

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that your body needs to build cells and make hormones and vitamin D. However, too much cholesterol in the blood can clog arteries and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Your liver produces most of your cholesterol, and your body gets some from animal-based foods, which can be transported through the blood via carriers called lipoproteins.

Types of cholesterol

LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein): Often called "bad" cholesterol, high levels of LDL can build up in your arteries, leading to plaque that blocks blood flow.

HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein): Known as "good" cholesterol, HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from your bloodstream and carries it back to your liver to be excreted.

Diet, Weight, Exercise- all can impact the amount of healthy and not so healthy cholesterol in the body.
Losing weight often can help improve cholesterol, blood pressure, inflammation, and other health concerns.

As we have learned more about cholesterol, the amount in our blood and what is considered healthy has changed. Some people worry that it is because by lowering the standard or goal, drug companies can prescribe more medication. That may not be completely true because the amount of cholesterol in our blood has actually decreased since the 1970’s – meaning we are testing it differently and beginning to look at the whole person not just the blood work.

This is similar to the BMI tables. These were created in the 1830’s to help assess body fat before we had tools to measure body mass.  Same with cholesterol tables.
That said – we all should try to protect our heart health – and here are some foods that can help lower cholesterol.

A heart-healthy low-cholesterol diet may include foods like:

·       Plants with high water content, like spinach and other leafy greens help remove cholesterol from the body. High water content in plants helps with cholesterol by promoting fullness with fewer calories, which displaces less healthy foods. More importantly, water-rich plants are often also high in fiber, and soluble fiber specifically helps lower cholesterol by binding with it in the digestive tract and removing it from the body.

·       High-fiber foods, including beans, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and a range of vegetables. Fiber helps reduce the impact of sugar and fat in the diet, by helping take it out of the body naturally.

·       Whole grains, such as oats, whole wheat bread, brown rice, and even popcorn also have fiber.

·       Fruits and berries, such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples, contain pectin a different type of fiber that help lower LDL. These are also higher in polyphenols to help fight inflammation too.

·       Nuts such as walnuts and almonds. These provide a few benefits – like fiber, healthy fat that can lower cholesterol. Yes – healthy fats can help fight cholesterol. Then they have plant sterols that help block the absorption of cholesterol.

·       Polyunsaturated fats, like certain vegetable oils. These include canola oil, sunflower seed oil, and olive oil. These can raise the good HDL fats in your body which then help remove excess cholesterol.

·       Eat fatty fish 2-3 times a week. Not only is it replacing meat or proteins, Omega-3s reduce triglycerides in the bloodstream and also protect the heart by helping prevent the onset of abnormal heart rhythms. You can also try MCT oils as they can help boost HDL cholesterol levels.

Just be careful – depending on the brand you may need to get used to the MCT. Some oils at Whole foods have warning that too much too fast can cause diarrhea. That is  why our Ignite is different. We have blend of c8/c10/c12 to make it easy to digest. MCT’s help brain function, support healthy skin, help you feel fuller and help provide energy.

·       Fiber supplements – but not all fiber is created equal. Some fiber like Metamucil may cause gas and discomfort because they are a bulking agent that swells to 30x it’s size. prebiotic fiber can help fight cholesterol by binding to cholesterol in the digestive tract, preventing its absorption, and by being fermented by gut bacteria to produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). These mechanisms increase cholesterol excretion and can help lower total and LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels. This is why we have prebiotic fiber in our shake, and in Fiber pro. Other companies use gums to thicken a shake and then can list them as a fiber. But they really are just thickeners. The Clinically studied fiber we use has more benefits – from satiety, to mood, to boosting probiotics in the gut up to 40%, and to helping cholesterol.

Foods that can make cholesterol worse:

·       Red meat, like beef, pork, and lamb which have saturated fat that can increase LDL.

·       Processed meats like sausage

·       Baked goods and sweets

·       Fried foods

·       Tropical oils such as palm oil and coconut oil

Things that we think were bad but are now being shown that was a myth

·       Heavy amounts of butter/cream  For most people, the cholesterol in foods like eggs, butter, and cream doesn't have a significant effect on blood cholesterol because saturated and trans fats are more influential. We also know that real butter has Vitamins: Butter is a good source of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K, which are important for immune function, bone growth, and heart health.

·       Short- and medium-chain fatty acids: These fats are quickly absorbed for energy and have been shown to have anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory effects.

·       Butyrate: This fatty acid may support digestive health, reduce inflammation, and help with weight control.

·       Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA): Found in higher amounts in butter from grass-fed cows, CLA may have anti-cancer and anti-obesity effects.

·       Eggs – contain cholesterol and for years we were told they were bad for us. This is no longer true. We know eggs contain choline and Omega’s which we know are good for brain and heart health. The real issue was when eating eggs, most people consume them with bacon and other foods that are not as healthy.

·       And for Triglycerides – avoid sugar!
When you eat too much sugar, your liver makes more LDL while lowering the amount of HDL in your body. The extra calories from a sugary diet also leads to more of something called triglycerides, a type of blood fat that plays a role in your cholesterol health.

So yes -all food in moderation but be afraid of margarine, not butter. Margarine is full of bad fats.

Supplements to add:
1. Berberine - May reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol and triglycerides.

(we now have this in Gluco Support too).

2. Fish Oil – supports healthy triglycerides – and no one gets enough. We have Dr. Seidman’s Vital Omega- which is molecurlaly distilled to remove heavy metals, and is combined with black cumin seed oil, flax oil, pumpkin seed oil for a more potent formula than others – 4x more potent.

Jump To Health:

1. Fiber Pro- a prebiotic fiber. While fiber in general is good for health, heart health and cholesterol, prebiotic fibers help and also have more health benefits including lowering cholesterol.

The two fibers we use have been clinically studied – each individually and also combined and shown to help digestive health, cholesterol, regularity, mood and more.

Building Lean Muscle & Power of Protein

Building Lean Muscle & Power of Protein

Building lean muscle has to do with nutrition, activity, and quality of protein. This is why not all protein shakes work the same, nor have the same benefits for your body.

The source and type of protein matter. There is a great article on Harvard Medical School about protein quality.

Your body can add about ½ pound of lean muscle a week – so most people can add 1-2 pounds maximum per month. You can lose more than that in fat in a week! So, when you use the right program, like Jump To Health – not only can you lose fat which helps you see your muscles better, you also can build lean muscle too as we heard from Doug tonight.

Now when we think of building lean muscle most people jump to the idea of eating more protein, like an Atkins diet. This is actually not the way! If you eat too much protein in any one meal, it will convert to fat in your body. And too much protein can be hard on the kidneys to process.

Now we have a lot of muscles in our body. It’s not just our arms and legs.

Here are some interesting facts about muscles:

1. You have 600 muscles in your body, and they are divided into 3 types – smooth, cardiac and skeletal.

2. Muscles make up about 40% of your total body weight.

3. The strongest muscle in your body is your jaw – it can close with a force of 200 pounds. The largest is your gluteus maximus or glutes, the smallest in your ear, and the busiest the eye. The hardest working is the heart, pumping 2500 gallons a day.

4. One pound of muscle is tiny -the size of a small tangerine, while one pound of fat is a lot bigger, the size of a large grapefruit. This is why on our program we recommend you measure, measure, measure. You will burn fat, and lose a grapefruit while you add lean muscle, the size of a tangerine. So, the scale may not change- but you will see and feel a difference in your clothes.

5. One pound of muscle burns 70-80 calories a day, one pound of fat 6-7. So, when you shift your body and lose more fat, you rely on muscles more and increase your metabolism.

6. We lose an average of 10 ounces of muscle a year starting at age 30. Loss of muscle is the #1 reason people go into nursing homes. We don’t notice it typically for 10 years -by then we get winded walking steps – not due to age but due to loss of muscle.

7. You are born with a set number of muscle fibers. You are not making new when you work out – you are making the muscle fibers bigger.

Strength training just 2 – 3 days a week with lifting, or yoga, walking, body weight exercises like squats, pushups – these help

improve balance

enhances posture

increases coordination

prevents injury

protects bone health

eases pain

reduces fat

prevents weight gain

slows age-related muscle loss

So, let’s talk nutrition and exercise tips to build larger, stronger, healthy muscles. You don’t need to lift weights – you just need to be active – even simply walking can help you.

1. Boost your energy

Studies show that adults who walked for 20 minutes outdoors experienced more vitality and energy than those who walked for 20 minutes indoors.

A small study found that 10 minutes of stair walking was more energizing than a cup of coffee for 18 women who felt sleep-deprived.

2. Boosts health

Studies show that walking for 30 minutes per day can reduce your risk for heart disease by 19 percent. If you live with diabetes, walking may also help lower your blood sugar levels.

3. Sleep better

Walking first thing may help you sleep better at night later. A small 2017 study observed older adults aged 55 to 65 who were experiencing difficulty falling asleep at night or were living with mild insomnia.

Those who exercised in the morning versus the evening experienced better sleep quality at night.

And sleep helps build lean muscle - growth hormone is naturally released by the brain into the bloodstream during sleep. Not getting enough sleep means your body doesn’t produce the helpful hormone needed to build muscle and keep tissue healthy.

Nutrition & Muscles:

You need to eat the right amount and right quality of protein to build lean muscle and burn fat.

most people do not get enough protein during the day to build lean muscle.

“The average American breakfast has about 12 grams of protein, which is not enough to stimulate repair and replacement of muscle proteins. For adults, meals must have at least 20-30 grams of protein to stimulate building essential muscle protein,” explains Donald K. Layman, PhD, professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois. With age, our muscles are not as sensitive to protein intake. Therefore, children, teens and younger adults can get away with lower amounts of protein per meal.

Eating adequate protein has a greater thermic effect, meaning it takes more calories to burn protein than carbohydrates or fat. “If you eat 100 calories of carbohydrates, you lose 5 calories. But for 100 calories of protein, you lose 15 to 20 calories because of the additional metabolic roles of protein,” Layman says.

And quality matters:

Lower quality proteins, such as wheat protein, lack one or more of the nine essential amino acids and so fail to stimulate muscle protein synthesis to the same degree as complete proteins like whey. High-quality protein sources, which supply all nine of the essential amino acids, aid muscle gain.

I see a lot of brands and low glycemic breads use wheat protein. It’s sort of like collagen protein – it may have some benefits for skin, hair or nails – but collagen is not going to build lean muscle. Neither are some simple plant proteins.

I see a lot of pea protein – but it’s not purified like we use at Jump To Health. So, you are not going to absorb it and get the same results. This is why people who have tried to follow our program and then use things like Premier Protein – fail. They are using lower quality protein.

Animal proteins have more leucine – which is why many people suggest that a vegetarian diet can be harder to be healthy. This can be supplemented -but again – it is quality that matters.

1. EAT BREAKFAST TO HELP BUILD MUSCLE MASS

Studies show that a protein and prebiotic fiber meal in the morning not only helps you concentrate and focus better, you will eat less throughoutthe day. And with our body only able to absorb 25 -30 gr of protein max per meal – by following our program we are helping you get the optimal amount throughout the day for better health.

2. Eat when hungry and not when you are full

Many people eat because they think they should – but if not hungry, then listen to your body. Maybe you had a big breakfast and can have a smaller lunch.

For those of you who want fast results and curb hunger and cravings, our New You In 22 Program is designed to help you fight cravings, control blood sugar and stay full and satisfied. And with our meal program of breakfast, amazing shake recipes including cake, and bread and desserts that are designed to burn fat – you will not be hungry, you will burn fat with our exclusive FBR or Fat Burning Ratio in each recipe!

3. EAT PROTEIN WITH EACH MEAL TO BOOST YOUR MUSCLE MASS

And the right amount and right types – including healthy nuts, and protein rich snacks.

4. EAT FRUIT AND VEGETABLES – and the right ones.

Nutrient dense foods to promote health, and that are low sugar too. Our meal plans and programs help provide healthy vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, and berries – any berry – is low in sugar and high in nutrition and fiber!

Our New You in 22 program can help you learn to love these fruits and veg, and our Power of 2 Program or Diabetes Program can help you learn to eat healthier with more flavor.

6. EAT HEALTHY FATS

Healthy fats improve fat loss and health as they digest slowly. Healthy fats include avocado, butter, cream, mayonnaise, almonds, pistachios, walnuts. And with Ignite in your coffee or in other foods this ice cream flavored powder delivers the RIGHT mixture of MCT’s to get you into fat burning mode, boost brain and focus, and skin hair and nails too. And with nutrients shown to help those with diabetes too – we help control blood sugar. And Control – can help too. We will talk this in a minute.

7. DRINK WATER TO HELP YOU BUILD MUSCLE MASS

Water is crucial for building and maintaining muscle mass. It acts as a building block for muscle tissue, aids in nutrient delivery, helps regulate body temperature, and is essential for muscle contractions and recovery. Adequate hydration is vital for optimal muscle function and overall athletic performance. Drinking water prevents dehydration but also hunger since an empty stomach can make you think you’re hungry. And it helps flush the body of toxins, while it provides hydration for metabolism. Being dehydrated slows metabolism so you lose less weight. By being hydrated you rev up your fat burning and muscle repair. And to help with this we have our Tea Energy which is a boost for the immune system, with extracts of green tea, white tea, black tea. It tastes like a smooth iced tea- but it is a powerhouse of mood boosting, fat burning EGCG power.

8. Detox from sugars hidden in foods.

Sugar spikes insulin and makes you hungrier, and wrecks gut health. So,your workouts will be worse as when your insulin spikes can lead to more dehydration, and lower energy. GlucoSupport can help as it blocks sugars hidden in foods -including those sugars that don’t sound like sugar on the label.

So how are the Jump To Health products better, and why do they work better?

Even if you were to join and get the recipes – you will not have the same results as when using our products.

The reason is quality.

There are a lot of shakes on the market – and most of them taste like metal or are gritty and bitter. Ours tastes like birthday cake because of the quality of the proteins that we use, and natural flavors too. And our shake was designed to hit the PDCAAS, or muscle building power that international health organizations look for. Most shakes out there including those using collagen do not come anywhere near meeting PDCAAS scores. This is why our shakes are approved in Canada, and our products have NPN numbers. We are also made in a certified Kosher, Certified Halal, Certified Organic, Certified Natural, FDA licensed and Health Canada licensed facility. Quality matters and that is the key to Results.

Our shakes and our unique Tri-Active protein blend make them more absorbed and easier to digest than other shakes and good for kids to elderly for that reason. And for less money too - $1.25 a kid serving, $2.25 an adult serving.

✓ Tri-Active Protein™ Blend

✓ Aminogen

✓ Astragin®

✓ Fibersol®

✓ Palatinose®

✓ Burn Fat, Build Muscle

✓ Digestive Health

✓ Immune Health

✓ Mood & Focus

The Core shake uses a whey hydrolysate -the highest absorbing, easiest to absorb protein, along with whey isolate and whey concentrate. A perfect blend for building lean muscle.

We added in Aminogen to both our core shake and V pro plant shake to help:

Aminogen is a patented enzyme that has been shown improve protein digestion and increase amino acid levels absorbed from dietary protein. Clinical research has shown Aminogen® to increase BCAA retention levels by 250%, nitrogen levels in muscle by 32% and overall amino acid plasma levels by 100%. Researchers also found all amino acids are released in greater amounts when protein is digested with Aminogen®. What's more, Aminogen® is 100% natural and ideal for anyone looking to build quality muscle or achieve lean body definition.

The Core shake:

AstraGin™ - a proprietary and patented form of ginseng and astragalus (herb). Supports the absorption of amino acids, glucose, and vitamins at the cellular level.

It helps muscles because it helps

  - Amino acids absorption such as Arginine and Citrulline by 66.7% and

    43% respectively.

   - Vitamins absorption such as folate by 50.4%.

   - Glucosamine absorption by 41.9%.

   - ATP production by 18%.- which is the body’s energy source.

We have the VPro Plant shake:

VPro is the best tasting plant-based shake, guaranteed – and the highest quality.

The other companies use simple pea protein which is only 40% -50% protein, or if you are lucky pea concentrate that maybe is 60% protein. That is because it is cheaper, and they can claim protein on the label. The challenge is it is not purified to all protein. So, you get the carb flavor and texture, not the protein. It is about quality, and we use the more expensive pea protein. Pea protein is a complete protein and has all the amino acids we need to be healthy and build lean muscle.

We have a pea hydrolysate – the most concentrated and pure pea protein -and 99% absorbable along with pea isolate – 90% absorbable, and then pumpkin seed protein.

People with malabsorption disorders and people with food allergies or sensitivities can usually tolerate a hydrolyzed protein formula better than the others. It’s used in hypoallergenic infant formulas, for example.

Hydrolyzed proteins may also cause less of an upset stomach for those with gut conditions like irritable bowel syndrome. They have also been shown to benefit those with slow stomach digestion. Pumpkin seed protein – is protein derived from pumpkin seeds. These are high in minerals, such as zinc and iron. They also have high levels of antioxidants, like vitamin E. Research indicates that adding pumpkin seeds to your diet can improve overall health and heart health. It's also been linked to the decrease in certain types of cancer. Pumpkin seed protein is very anti-inflammatory. So, anyone with inflammation, like arthritis, may find this helps.

For athletes we also use isomaltulose as a sweetener. The brand we use is Palatinose – it has been studied in Type I and Type 2 diabetics, and shown to help them manage blood sugar because it does not spike insulin. This is critical for athletes too as insulin spikes weaken performance. The sweetener has been studied in athletes and shown to help with endurance, stamina, and energy, and the sweetener has fat burning properties too. So, the shake helps you get fast results, fight inflammation, and tone up. Now one thing we tell people is to measure their inches. If you lose 1 pound of fat (size of a large grapefruit) and gain 1 pound of lean muscle – the scale shows no movement. BUT you will be 1-3 inches smaller!! So, keep track and watch how fast you can burn fat, build lean muscle, and reshape your body.

Benefits of both shakes:

Regulates Appetite with 41% increase in peptide absorption

73% decrease in gut inflammation

Supports healthy insulin levels

10% reduction C Reactive Protein

3 Times greater protein absorption

Increases HDL/Lowers LDL

Boosts Lean Muscle

Supports regularity

Eases digestion, bloating

Control – is a multi-action product that does more than help Control hunger and cravings. It can help with Energy, Happy Mood, and help shrink fat cells, and tell the body to store less fat. We created Control to be better – better blood sugar control, cravings, mood, and a little energy. No jitters -just healthy energy with 70 mg of caffeine which is about ½ cup to 1/3 cup of brewed coffee worth of caffeine. This little secret of a product helps your body’s fat cells to shrink, while it boosts mood, keeps blood sugar stable and fights cravings. You can lose weight with Control and avoid the Hangry’s.

Clinically studied nutrients at the studied doses.

 Learn about Control https://www.fluid.app/s/e79bee

1.Green tea – we have it in our Control, and our PowerOx. Green tea extract can accelerate fat loss and improve joint, gut, skin, and heart health, and reduce muscle soreness after exercise. The amount of extracts – not caffeine, but the healthy polyphenols is like drinking 4-6 cups of tea per capsule.

Studies show it helps fat breakdown, boosts metabolism, boost antioxidants, increases fat burning during exercise too while it boost gut, heart, skin.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4055352/

Learn about Power Ox Tea https://www.fluid.app/s/0b1ad1

2.In Control we also have Garcinia Cambogia, which is derived from a tropical fruit. Garcinia cambogia contains a substance called hydroxycitric acid (HCA). HCA has been shown to increase levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that influences mood, social behavior, and appetite. It also inhibits an enzyme that tells your body to store fat. So,you can burn more fat and have better serotonin.

https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/qa/how-can-garcinia-cambogia-help-people-with-type-2-diabetes

3.Then it has 5 HTP – a natural appetite suppressant found naturally in our bodies. One of the largest roadblocks a person will face on their way to a healthier body is a nagging appetite, and Control can help in multiple ways. It is an amino acid pre cursor of serotonin-with anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, sleep, and weight loss benefits. Low serotonin levels are linked to depression and anxiety, and worsen the symptoms of menopause. As your serotonin levels rise, your mood improves. Studies show that 5 HTP can help reduce appetite so you have less hunger.

4.Then Dl-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid which can affect any number of systems in the brain. It can help you feel happier, and less stressed. We tend to eat more when we are sad, lonely, or blue – so by helping you feel happier – you can eat less.

Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid, and one of the building blocks of protein and the muscles in your body. Phenylalanine is considered "essential" because you need it to function, but your body cannot synthesize enough of it independently, so it must be consumed either from food or via phenylalanine supplementation. Phenylalanine has also been studied for use in the following conditions.

-Parkinson’s disease: There is evidence that phenylalanine could be beneficial in treating the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, though more research is required.

-Alcohol withdrawal: Phenylalanine, along with some fellow amino acids, has shown indications that it could be useful in treating alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

-Chronic pain: D-phenylalanine may help with pain relief in certain instances (like low back pain), though so far research results are still spotty and not all of the studies produced results with statistical significance.

-Weight loss - L-phenylalanine may help with weight loss in a couple of ways. First the hormone cholecystokinin (CCK), which is stimulated by L-phenylalanine, may act as an appetite suppressant and thus lead to lower calorie consumption throughout the day. Because dopamine is responsible for feelings of pleasure (the kind you may get from eating your favorite dessert, for instance), regulating dopamine levels can be beneficial in the treatment of obesity. If L-phenylalanine can be used to keep your tyrosine and thus dopamine levels high while you go on a diet (and cut your usual dopamine supply), it may help reduce food cravings and lead to more sustainable weight loss.

From better memory and focus to an improved mood, reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression. This supplement can do it all. It even works as an effective pain reliever in a way.

You can get some phenylalanine from meat, seafood, soy, seaweed, nuts, and seeds including pumpkin seed which we have pumpkin seed protein in our V Pro shake.

5.Chromium – a highly absorbable type of chromium that helps keep blood sugar stable.

In addition to its effects on glucose, insulin, and lipid metabolism, chromium has been reported to increase lean body mass and decrease percentage body fat, which may lead to weight loss in humans.

Diabetes, Blood Sugar, and Gluco Support

Diabetes, Blood Sugar, and Gluco Support

Diabetes is a growing global epidemic. Diabetes is one of the fastest growing health challenges, with the number of adults living with diabetes having more than tripled over the past 20 years. And it is expected to double again, and fast.

By 2050 - almost 1 in 2 people around the world will be diabetic.

https://time.com/6289524/diabetes-worldwide-prediction-2050/?fbclid=IwAR20PKJ42rS4IULVM-0bxcflFiUi_JimWzmhDF2Arhljul0UbxzbJAvMkyY

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the disease, accounting for about 96% of cases. It occurs when the body’s cells stop responding properly to insulin, which can lead to chronic high blood-sugar levels that leave patients vulnerable to heart, kidney, eye, and nerve damage.

Diabetes shortens lives. Every 7 seconds, someone dies due to diabetes (lets be silent for 7 seconds). 7 seconds. Someone lost a loved one. A brother, a sister, a father, a mother, a friend.

Kids:

And it is not just adults. Kids are getting diabetes at an increasingly faster rate.

The number of people under age 20 living with type 1 diabetes increased by 45%, and the number living with type 2 diabetes grew by 95%. And that was from 2001 to 2017.

An article just came out saying that it is expected kids diabetes can increase 600% by 2050 if we don’t do something.

If our blood sugar is low, we can feel weak and tired. If it is too high, it could be diabetes or early onset of diabetes with many health impacts.

What we eat matters. Protein, and dietary fiber can help you keep your normal blood sugar levels in a healthy range. Some studies suggest that a protein snack before bedtime may help blood sugar levels have less of a spike in the morning. So, a piece of string cheese, a hard-boiledegg, a half shake in water, a slice of lunchmeat – all these may be a snack to help control blood sugar. But again – if you are diabetic talk with your doctor.

Part of the problem is how much sugar is in everything we eat.

Here are some foods that contain far more sugar than a donut.

- Low Fat yogurt- can be like eating 3-4 donuts.

- Bottled Smoothies- those green drinks can add up to 15 teaspoons or more of added sugar.

- Low fat peanut butter. When the cut the fat, they added sugar – its almost 1/3 sugar.

- BBQ sauce – a serving of ribs has about 4 Tbsp. sauce – sounds like not a lot, but that is

more sugar than a candy bar.

-- Sushi rice – you think sushi is low fat, protein, and good for you. Sushi rice has sugar – so

when you eat a roll – you could be eating 6 tsp sugar from the rice, plus more sugar in the

 sauce.

- Tea – that fast food sweet tea is like eating 2 ½ snicker bars.

- Whole grain bagel – like eating 1 ½ donuts.

- Salad dressing – especially fat free. Check it out – the first ingredient is typically sugar.

- Sweetened almond milk – 13 gr sugar, 1 gr protein, no fiber. It’s like drinking pure sugar water.

Even cigarettes have a ½ teaspoon of sugar. And watch out for other fiber drinks – one in the store I found had 5 gr fiber, and 16 gr sugar.

So, we need to be careful on what we eat.

https://www.eatthis.com/surprising-foods-with-sugar/

What I found surprising is how much sugar is in bread today vs. when our parents and grandparents ate bread.

Martin’s Potato bread has more sugar than a twizzler, and only 1 gr fiber to offset the sugar.

Dave’s Killer Raisin Bread – 2 slices is like eating a PayDay candy bar.

Cheesecake factory bread – yum – because it is 8 gr sugar, 3 gr fiber.

And interesting – Subway Bread – Ireland’s court said it is not bread. the court ruled that the bread served at Subway, the US chain that hawks giant sandwiches in 110 countries and territories, could not in fact be defined as bread because of its high sugar content.

Why is there sugar in our bread? It acts as a preservative. It helps prevent mold growth. And it tastes good so we keep eating it. No wonder you eat bread at a restaurant before a meal – it spikes your blood sugar so you get hungrier and order more food.

Even fast food has added sugar.

Taco Bell – grilled stuffed burrito – 6 gr sugar

Five Guys cheeseburger – 8.5 gr sugar – that’s like a Butterfinger Candy Bar.

Shake Shack Smoke Burger – 11 gr sugar. That is 44% of the amount you should eat daily.

McDonalds’ Grilled Chicken – 11 gr. – Like eating M&M’s.

Arby’s Kings Hawaiian Fish sandwich – 19 gr sugar. That’s like eating a Hershey’s Cookies n Cream candy bar.

And whew – the Subway Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki foot long – 32 gr sugar. That’s’ the same as a Chick Fila sweet tea. Wow.

https://www.businessinsider.com/sugar-in-fast-food-2016-1#mcdonalds-artisan-grilled-chicken-sandwich-5

Sugar increases blood pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol. Sugar feeds cancer.

In 1900 we ate an average 4 pounds per person per year. It was expensive and hard to get. In 1970 we ate 26 pounds on average per person each year. We were eating less than 1/8 of a cup of sugar a day – or about 2 Tablespoons a day.

Today it is 156 pounds per person, almost 8 oz. a day- because it is in the foods we eat like we just talked about. We went from 2 Tablespoons a day, to 1 cup or 16 Tablespoons, or 48 teaspoons a day.

Take out a teaspoon. Seriously. Go to your sugar cannister and count out 48 teaspoons. And then you will know why our health is so bad. Why diabetes is skyrocketing, heart disease is the #1 killer, and cancer is in younger and younger people. Sugar is addictive. It acts like cocaine in the brain. Makes you wired then tired. Disrupts hormones and gut health.

It’s back to the Food Industry and how they try to find ways to make us get addicted to eating their products so they make more money. That is why Dr. Steve wrote his book on Why Humans Like Junk Food. He explains how snacks like Cheetos are designed to kind of melt, so your brain does not think it is eating. Then the sugar and salt get you eating more.

Canned vegetables too – sugar and salt are used as preservatives. So read the food label and try to cut back on sugar. Follow one of our meal plans. Add Fiber Pro to your diet. When we get the right amount of fiber, proteinand healthy carbs -it is amazing what changes you can see and feel.

So what can you do? Exercise and diet can help.

Exercise helps the body to lower blood glucose. When your muscles contract during activity, it stimulates another mechanism that is completely separate of insulin. This mechanism allows your cells to take up glucose and use it for energy whether insulin is available or not. So that is how exercise helps.

Nutrition can help because foods like protein help takelonger to digest and can help keep blood sugar in the normal range. It is best to get protein in each snack or meal. There are even some studies that show if you are diabetic – to have a small protein bite or snack before bed so that you wake up with better blood sugar and fewer spikes.

In addition to protein – it is fiber. But sadly only 8 out of 100 people get enough fiber. Imagine a room full of 100 people. Are you getting enough?

- Fiber, and especially Prebiotic fiber can help you feel fuller, boost your immune and digestive health, boost mood, and help you eat less through the day. Increasing prebiotic intake helps promote specific types of beneficial bacteria to help rebalance your gut. These good bacteria then help to lower inflammation, improve management of blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, and promote more significant weight loss. Prebiotics are found in raw asparagus, cooked onions, garlic, chicory root, bananas. This is why we include a full serving of prebiotic fiber in our shakes and Fiber Pro.

Healthy fat can help too – avocado, olive oil, dairy, fish and omegas. Fat is needed by the body for providing energy, keeping hair and skin healthy, helping our cells to function properly and for protecting our body and organs. Fat, like protein, digests slowly and does not raise blood sugar. Because it digests slowly, it delays blood sugar, and studies show it can help improve insulin sensitivity. And now we have an Omega that is 4x more powerful than others on the market. 4 x the power to help your heart, your insulin, your gut, your brain, your joints.

We have a lot of this information in our Diabetes Meal Plan – a downloadable book full of information on what foods to eat, along with recipes, and a meal plan so you can lose or maintain weight, eat healthier and better control blood sugar.

So, protein, fiber, healthy fats, - foods like protein, our shakes can help you manage blood sugar. The Fiber in our shake and Fiber Pro can help, Ignite can help as it is a healthy fat.

And it has Berberine. This ingredient is in the buzz a lot right now because it can help Berberine can help you lose weight, support healthy cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and can help you manage blood sugar levels.

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/berberine-powerful-supplement

Many studies show that berberine can help lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, and has been shown to help support healthy cholesterol, boost gut health, and fight inflammation.

•decrease insulin resistance, making the blood sugar-lowering hormone insulin more effective

•increase glycolysis, helping your body break down sugars inside cells

Gymnema Sylvestre is in the new formula – and it is in there to help fight cravings, and help inhibit sugar absorption. all the sugar hidden in food- this ingredient can help you absorb less, fewer calories, and less spike. It will also help balance sugar cravings.

It also has a clinically studied Cinnamon bark extract, thatcan work like insulin to lower blood sugar. It may also help with cholesterol, and fighting inflammation.

Studies suggest that cinnamon for diabetes can help block the activity of several digestive enzymes to slow the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream after a high-carb meal. For this reason, researchers believe that people with type 2 diabetes may experience significant positive effects on blood sugar markers by supplementing with cinnamon extract.

https://draxe.com/nutrition/health-benefits-cinnamon/

We also have white kidney bean extract – which has clinical studies showing it can help slow the absorption of carbs in food. So, you get less impact on the blood sugar, and less bloat too.

One study showed that this nutrient changed the glycemic index – or the impact on blood sugar – of white bread, one of the worst things for blood sugar.

In our test market – we had team members lose from 4-12 pounds in 30 days – just by adding these capsules.

We also have Neopuntia, or cactus fiber in this formula. This has been shown slow the absorption of fats – think pepperoni pizza, or French fries, or simply the fat and sugars added to crackers, cookies, and foods to make them more addictive.

This is why the capsule works not just for weight loss – but also for health.

All you need to do – take1- 2 capsules before 1-2 meals a day. That’s it.

A Calorie is not a Calorie

A Calorie is not a Calorie (see below)

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/6-reasons-why-a-calorie-is-not-a-calorie#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2

Eat less, exercise more – if only it were that simple! We’veheard this for years – so why is it not working? Several reasons – 1 is calories are not just a calorie. The nutrition and density of food impact your weight, hunger, mood, sleep and more. And 2. You cannot out exercise a poor diet.

4 double stuff oreo cookies are 280 calories. To burn that lifting you need to lift weights for an hour and 15 minutes. Or you could run for 25 minutes, or walk for 45-55 minutes. It is not easy to walk off those calories.

Exercise is key for toning, for mood, for helping your metabolism. It is important – but you cannot out exercise a poor diet.

To know how many calories you should eat per day to keep the weight on – take your weight and multiply it by 15. Then to lose weight doctors will tell you to cut 500 calories a day. But – its not just calories that impact weight and health.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/295901

JTH products can help you eat less, cut calories, and boost health. Then we will do a deep dive on nutrition to help you eat healthier, for better blood sugar, better gut health, better brain and overall health.

Now the first thing is to get enough protein. Most people get the bulk of their protein in the evening meal. But for better muscle health, hunger control and weight we need to eat it in each meal and snack. JTH shakes help you do that by giving you easy to digest, perfect amount, and simple and fast protein shakes that are better.

Control https://www.fluid.app/s/e79bee

So now lets talk about nutrition and why the types of calories matter – and then how JTH can make it easy for you with our meal plans! We have them for any lifestyle – keto, blood sugar, vegan/vegetarian, simple power of 2 shakes. So many ways that make it simple to get results.

What we eat can impact our hormones, our mood, whether we store a calorie as fat or convert it to sugar. Different foods and macronutrients have a major effect on the hormones and brain centers that control hunger and eating behavior.

Typically when we look at calories – we can look at protein, fat, and carbs. Our body digests them differently, and the impact on blood sugar and weight is different. For example 1 gr of protein is 4 calories, 1 gram of sugar is 4 calories, and 1 gr of fat is 9 calories. So right away people think to get slimmer cut calories and cut fat. But this is not true. Our body will process carbs almost immediately and carbs can turn to fat in the body. Then it goes to protein – it digests slower, and keeps us fuller, yet too much protein in one meal, typically above 30 grams and it can turn to fat in the body. Then fat – fat is digested the slowest and the best part – fat cannot turn to fat in your body. This is one reason if you eat a cream soup – like cream of broccoli – you will feel fuller a lot longer, and often eat a lot fewer calories.

This is also why a true keto program works – when you eat fat you feel fuller, you eat less, and your body cannot turn fat into fat.

And this is where 1 area where keto programs online or in bookstores are wrong. Dr. Steve and I looked at hundreds of plans – and 99% of what we see are not true keto. They do not give you enough fat. The reason why is they base it on % of calories. Yet we just learned fat has almost double the calories of protein and carbs. So if you base it on calories you are not getting enough fat to put you into ketosis and keep you there. And then other keto programs also include vegetables like cooked spinach or tomato sauce – and those convert to sugar in the body -taking you out of ketosis. This is why on so many people gain weight on other keto programs. When you combine fat plus carbs like butter and bread – that is dangerous as you eat a lot of calories and can gain weight. It truly is about eating the right kind of foods together.

This is where our keto plan – called New You In 22 – is different. It is based on Dr. Steve’s PHD that he earned 30 years ago studying keto and fat in the body. He wrote meal plans for people with epilepsy and helped them for years. Then the drug industry introduced anti-convulsant drugs and the diet became less popular. But now we know that fat is good for the brain, it boosts brain function, helps fight inflammation, helps the body create hormones and absorb vitamins. Eat it and you eat fewer calories in the long run. And with New You in 22 – we did all the calculations for you. All the macro’s, micro’s, fat to protein to carbs, to the right carbs. And we provide over 270 recipes for shakes, protein cakes, protein bagels, and breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and desserts that help you lose weight when using our products, and food the whole family can enjoy too.

Now the reason your family can eat these meals is they are healthy, low carb, and it is when you combine the program with the products you get the fastest results. Our average week 1 weight loss on New You in 22 is 6.4 lbs. the first week. In 22 days we had people lose up to 19 lbs. Without hunger, and while detoxing their body from sugars, carbs, chemicals.

If you are not into keto then with the Power of 2 program – you will get enough calories to burn fat, and not be hungry. Some programs I see have people eating 800-1000 calories a day- and this will wreck your metabolism and slow your weight loss, even make you gain weight as the body fights to stay out of starvation mode. So there are many reasons diets do and do not work – and with JTH – our programs were created by PhD Nutritionists – so the products and programs deliver healthy results.

And here is a fun fact – carbs begin to digest in our mouth as the bacteria and enzymes convert carbs to maltodextrin. So our body makes starch out of carbs beginning in our mouth. Protein digestion begins in our stomach where enzymes in the stomach begin to break it down. Although fats leave your stomach more slowly than either carbohydrates or proteins, very little fat digestion occurs in the stomach. Bile from the liver prepares fat for the breakdown by emulsifying it, making it soluble in water.

Now lets talk other foods where a calorie is not a calorie.

Here is one example:

1. Fructose vs Glucose

The two main simple sugars in your diet are glucose and fructose.

Gram for gram, the two provide the same number of calories.

But the way they are metabolized in the body is completely different.

Glucose can be metabolized by all of your body’s tissues, but fructose can only be metabolized by the liver. Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. It goes up when you’re hungry and down after you’ve eaten. One study showed that fructose leads to higher ghrelin levels — that is more hunger — than glucose. Fructose does not stimulate the satiety centers in your brain in the same way as glucose, leading to a reduced feeling of fullness.

Consuming a lot of fructose can cause insulin resistance, abdominal fat gain, increased triglycerides, blood sugar and small, dense LDL compared to the exact same number of calories from glucose

As you can see: the same number of calories — vastly different effects on hunger, hormones and metabolic health.

This is also one reason Jump To Health does not use fructose in our products. Yet so many companies do because we are taught it is low glycemic – it doesn’t spike insulin. But it does other harm and can make you hungrier. And guaranteed the other shakes on the market have fructose or artificial sweeteners.

2. Energy or heat to eat.

Some foods require more energy to digest- which means they digest slower, and don’t impact blood sugar or insulin as easily as other foods.

Studies show that high-protein diets boost metabolism by 80–100 calories per day, compared to lower-protein diets

Put simply, high-protein diets have a metabolic advantage. Yet most people get their protein in their evening meal. We tend to eat muffins, bagels, waffles, cereal, toast, pancakes for breakfast. A salad for lunch and boom – a big steak for dinner. But your body can only absorb so much at once – and what it does not absorb it can convert to fat! That is why so many people failed on the Atkins or fake keto diets- they were not getting the right amount of protein. That is why JTH delivers the right amount, with easier to digest and absorb proteins. Meaning our Core shake which is whey based, or V Pro shake that is plant based a) digest easier, b) build lean muscle better c) taste better and d) get used more efficiently than any other shake. And they have other health benefits for heart, gut, brain, mood, sleep, bones too.

3. Different foods have different effects on satiety. This means some foods will give you a greater feeling of fullness. It’s also much easier to overeat on some foods than others. For example, it may be quite easy to eat 500 calories or more of ice cream, while you’d have to force feed yourself to eat 500 calories of eggs or broccoli.

4. Low carb vs. Low Fat

We have been trained by the food industry to think that fat is bad for us, and that we need to eat low carb. This is one myth that is hard to beat. Yet this myth was created by food industry lobbyists. And it is easy to think about. Low fat foods like bagels, cereal, grains – have a long shelf life. They can last on your cupboard for a long long long time. Fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats do not. And grains are a lot cheaper to grow and sell.

People on a higher fat diet with healthy carbs like vegetables and lower carbs tend to lose twice as much weight as someone on a low fat diet. And many low fat diets actually lead to more weight gain as we ate more starches, more sugar, and wrecked out health.

This is why Jump Core shakes have a healthy lecithin – a type of fat that is really good for your body and your brain. Lecithin is a phospholipid, a compound made of fats and water-soluble chemicals, that is produced in the human liver and found in the brain. Lecithin helps break down cholesterol in the blood.

Lecithin contains choline, which is a chemical your brain uses to communicate. Clinical research suggests that a diet rich in choline can lead to a sharper memory and help people with Alzheimer's. Lipid substances that contain choline, like lecithin, may improve the brain's functional pathways.

Jump shakes use lecithin from flax and sunflower which also contain healthy omega fats for heart health. Other companies use soy lecithin because it is cheaper – and it does not include the omegas that our shake does. This is one more reason we say our Shake That Tastes Like Cake is a health drink – not just for weight loss.

5. The Glycemic Index

The speed at which carb calories hit the system can have a dramatic effect on their potential to cause overeating and weight gain.  There are simple carbs that enter the blood stream fast – like cereal, pasta, bread. These jack up your blood sugar and make you hungrier. If you’ve eaten cereal for breakfast and then were starving two hours later this is why. And this is why restaurants put bread on the table before you order. You eat bread, look at the menu and get hungrier, ordering more and spending more.

So a fun secret is to eat the bread AFTER you have had a few bites of protein. Researchers from Cornell Medical College, found that the order in which different types of food are consumed has a significant impact on glucose and insulin levels. When the vegetables and protein were eaten before the carbohydrates, the researchers found that glucose levels were 29%, 37% and 17% lower at the 30, 60 and 120-minute checks, compared with when carbohydrates were consumed first. Also, insulin was found to be significantly lower when the participants ate vegetables and protein first.

So take a bite of protein, or eat your salad before touching the bread and will impact you less.

6. Fiber reduces calorie absorption

Fiber is a form of carbohydrate that contributes to satiety without contributing calories, because it is not absorbed into the body. Consequently, a 100-calorie high-fiber food will reduce appetite and subsequent eating more than a 100-calorie low-fiber food. Likewise, a person who increases his daily fiber consumption without making any conscious effort to eat less will wind up eating less anyway due to reduced appetite. Thus, a calorie inside a high-fiber food is not equal to a calorie inside a low-calorie food.

7. Protein – kills appetite. Pasta doesn’t’

The protein story doesn’t end with increased metabolism.

It also leads to significantly reduced appetite, making you eat fewer calories automatically.

Studies show that protein is by far the most filling macronutrient

n one study, people who increased their protein intake to 30% of calories, automatically started eating 441 fewer calories per day and lost 11 pounds (4.9 kg) in 12 weeks.

But if you eat pasta – you can eat several hundred calories and not feel full, vs. protein. And pasta will spike blood sugar, protein helps keep it stable.
