Kidney health, heart, health, and diet

Kidney Health, Heart Health, and Diet

February is heart health month – but we can’t talk about the heart without also talking about the kidney.

Your heart and kidneys are two important organs in your body. They work together to keep you healthy. When one is affected, the other is too. In other words, your heart can affect the health of your kidneys, and your kidneys can affect the health of your heart.

Healthy kidneys remove wastes and extra fluid from your body. They balance salts and minerals in your blood. They also help control blood pressure, make red blood cells, and keep bones strong.

The heart pumps blood filled with oxygen and nutrients to all parts of your body to work properly and stay alive. Blood pumped by the heart also picks up carbon dioxide and waste products so that your body can get rid of them. To move blood to each part of your body, your heart relies on your blood vessels. Together, the heart, blood and blood vessels make up a system called “the cardiovascular system

The heart is a muscle that pumps blood filled with oxygen to all parts of your body. This job keeps every cell, organ, and system alive within your body.

The kidneys clean the blood, removing waste products and extra water. Without the kidneys, your blood would have too much waste and water. The heart would be working too hard or would not function at all without the help of your kidneys.

The heart pumps blood filled with oxygen through all parts of your body, including the kidneys. Without the heart, your kidneys would not have the oxygen-filled blood needed to do its many important jobs.

The kidneys remove waste from the blood and return the cleaned blood back to the body. Each minute about one litre of blood – one-fifth of all the blood pumped by the heart – enters the kidneys through the renal arteries. After the blood is cleaned, it flows back into the body through the renal veins.

Your kidneys:

Clean your blood of waste products and extra water

Help control blood pressure

Keep bones healthy and strong

Help make red blood cells

Keep the balance of minerals in your blood (like sodium, phosphorous, and potassium)

Kidney Disease – growing at an alarming rate.

Kidney disease is growing at an alarming rate. It currently affects more than 1 in 7 — or 15% — of American adults, with people of color at greater risk for kidney failure.

In the US - 37 million people have kidney disease.

About 807,000 Americans are living with kidney failure.

More than 562,000 Americans are on dialysis

More than 245,000 Americans are living with a kidney transplant

9 out of 10 people with kidney disease are unaware they have it, and half of those with severely reduced kidney function (but not yet on dialysis) do not know they have kidney disease. About 1 in 3 adults with diabetes may have kidney disease. Diabetes is the top cause of kidney failure, causing nearly half (45%) of new cases.

1 in 5 adults with high blood pressure may have kidney disease. High blood pressure is the second most common cause of kidney failure, causing 28% of new cases.

Kidney disease is one of the top 10 causes of death in the U.S. It kills more people each year than breast or prostate cancer.

Heart

Your heart is about the size of 2 fists, and weighs 10 oz. It beats 100,000 times a day. There are 60,00 miles of blood vessels – enough to go around the earth twice. A woman’s heart on average beats 8x faster than a mans. Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the U.S.

How can I keep my heart and kidneys healthy?

These tips can help keep your kidney and heart health on track. You should always speak with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your diet and lifestyle.

Regular physical activity

Lose weight, if you need to

Eat less fat

Keep your blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood fats under control

Stop smoking

Reduce stress

A good way to keep the heart and kidney connection in mind is to remember, what is good for your kidneys is good for your heart. Keeping up the health of your heart is good for the health of your kidneys.

Lowering blood sugar is key to a healthy heart and kidney. Too much sugar in the diet can increase blood pressure, and triglycerides, and increase bad cholesterol.

Too much sugar in the diet can impact fatty liver disease.

It also causes inflammation.

So the key is to try to avoid added sugar, especially fructose. Our livers were designed to process 4-6 pounds of fructose per year. Fructose is found in fruits and vegetables, and the fiber in those, and water content – 85% of fruit is water – it helps offset the impact on the liver. But today we are eating almost 60 pounds of fructose – so it is no wonder we are seeing fatty liver disease in kids now, and growing kidney issues in adults, and heart disease and diabetes growing.

What damages the kidney and heart?

Diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure) are the two leading causes of kidney disease. High blood sugar levels in uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure can damage the kidney’s blood vessels, leaving them unable do their job properly.

With ½ of the population having high blood pressure, ½ being prediabetic and more getting diabetes – we can see we need to do something.

What helps?

Foods to Avoid:

1. Sodium. Today we eat 40-50% more sodium than we should. The average Adult is eating almost 4,000 mg per day – far above the now recommended 1500-2000 mg. This impacts heart and kidneys.

So much of our food has salt in it – to preserve it and add flavor. But there are low sodium soups, vegetables you can buy and more companies offer low sodium versions. Once you lower your sodium – you’ll be amazed at how awful salty food will now taste. My husband and I rarely put salt in anything we cook. So when we eat out or try food at Costco – wham- all I taste is salt. And feel awful and drink a lot of water after.

2. Sugar – impacts your blood pressure. We eat a cup of sugar a day hidden in foods. This is why we created Gluco Support -to help slow the impact of sugar and carbs on the body. Simply take 1 capsule before 1-2 meals – and not only will you feel better, you can lose weight just with this one little product.

It also has berberine – called Natures’ Ozempic – for curbing hunger and gymnema which makes sugar less appealing.

3. Watch your protein intake. Many people think protein is good so more is better. But it is not. You can only absorb 25-30 grams in one meal. The rest gets stored as fat – and you also tax yourkidneys.

So have a shake for breakfast, a snack with protein like string cheese or an egg with a healthy carb like fruit or veg, have a sensible lunch or another shake, and a sensible dinner and you’ll lose weight, lower blood pressure, and protect kidney health.

4. Watch alcohol intake – the body thinks of it as poison and make the kidneys work harder to filter it out.

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods-to-avoid-with-kidney-disease#foods-to-avoid

Foods that help healthy kidneys, cholesterol and heart health:

Are generally foods we should all eat more of. The average person gets 1 serving of fruit per day, and only 1 oz. of lettuce.

1. Dark leafy greens- kale, spinach, romaine, all have vitamin K – good for blood and kidneys, and fiber for heart health.

2. Berries – low glcyemic, packed with antioxidants and fiber.

3. Cranberrries – low sugar cranberry juice protects the bladder from infection, which can spread to the kidney.

4. Polyphenols – in fruits, veg, olive oil – help prevent inflammation. This is why we recommend the Fruit Power and Veg Power capsules. They are the most potent fruit/veg supplement – 40% more nutrients than the brand you see on TV for almost ½ the price. They help kidneys, gut, brain, cells, a lot.

5. Cruciferous veg – cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower – these are in the Fruit Power, and Veg power – have phytochemicals – which can help protect kidneys.

6. Omegas – from fish, or supplements – can help blood triglycerides and blood pressure – which in turn can impact kidneys.

How Jump To Health Can Help.

1. Fruit Power, Veg Power – get the anti-inflammation benefits and boost gut health too. You can feel this in as little as 3 days.

Vegetable power and fruit power https://www.fluid.app/s/942f1a

2. Fiber Pro – a recent study in PubMed shows that gut health can improve kidney function – from prebiotics and probiotics. These can help reduce inflammation, improve kidney function and retard progression of CKD by restoring the symbiosis of gut microflora in patients with CKD. A randomised trial found synbiotics decreased serum PCS without reducing serum IS in non-dialysis CKD

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6067341/#:~:text=Recently%2C%20probiotics%2C%20prebiotics%20or%20synbiotics,IS%20in%20non%2Ddialysis%20CKD.

In the Journal of Renal Nutrition – another article talks to prebiotic fiber – and how it can help slow progression of those with CKD.

https://www.jrnjournal.org/article/S1051-2276(14)00260-X/fulltext#:~:text=Fiber%20and%20prebiotics%3A%20mechanisms%20and%20health%20benefits.&text=Better%20known%20as%20fiber%2C%20prebiotics,probiotics%20to%20benefit%20the%20host.

And another article in National Library of Medicine - Emerging evidence suggests that diet, particularly one that is rich in dietary fiber, especially prebiotic fiber, may prevent the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its associated complications in people with established CKD.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8825222/

Now Fiber Pro is not gritty, not gassy – has no added sugar like those other fiber powders or drinks

You can add it to morning coffee, or any food or beverage and boost gut health, balance hunger hormones, help heart and cholesterol and support kidney health too. For a lot less $ - and no other brand has the 2 clinically studied prebiotic fiber.

3. Jump To Health Core (whey) or VPro (plant) shakes. A lot of people think of protein shakes as being for losing weight or building lean muscle. The JTH shake is unique in that it is a health drink – that boosts gut health, supports kidney health, mood, brain, focus, immune and a lot more.

It is an easy to digest protein – in the right amount – so your kidneys don’t have to work so hard.

It also has a full serving of a clinically studied prebiotic fiber, and digestive enzymes.

Core and V Pro Protein https://www.fluid.app/s/aa95ed

4. Gluco Support – help control your blood sugar, and lower the glycemic index of foods.

1 small capsule before 1 meal – and you can help reduce weight, cravings, and control blood sugar which can impact your heart and your kidneys.

Gluco Support https://www.fluid.app/s/89709c

We have other products that can help too – but these would be the key ones. Plus we provide free meal plans, recipes to help you change your lifestyle – one day or even one meal at a time. Start slow with Gluco Support or Fiber Pro. Add the Fruit & Veg. Get tested – see if you see improvements. Add a shake – that tastes like birthday cake and is natural. You’ll save $ vs. other brands and save on groceries too.

So if you are worried about kidney health – then take the jump to better health – with Jump To Health.

Kidney Stones

Kidney disease, kidney stones are becoming more prominent.

Kidney stones are common and are on the rise. About 11 percent of men and 6 percent of women in the United States have kidney stones at least once during their lifetime. We spend over $2bn in health care in the US on kidney stones each year. And they are painful. My husband has had them and it is awful to see the pain it can cause.

There are different types of stones – with the about 2/3 being calcium based. Yet it is not calcium that causes them. Low calcium diet and low urine volume can lead to more kidney stones. The best proven method of stone prevention is to increase the amount of urine that you make. By the simple process of urinary dilution, crystals are unable to collect within the kidney and pass in the urine without forming a stone.

So drink more water. With 75% of us dehydrated – we can all drink more.

Also check for metabolic health issues. Metabolic disorders – If a condition or disorder prevents the body from properly breaking down food, it can lead to high levels of oxalate and cystine in the urine, which leads to stone formation.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (Gerd)

GERD and diet

Gastroesophageal reflux disease

20 % of the population suffers GERD, or acid reflux on any given day. American Gastroenterological Association says that about one-third of the population has GERD and that it could be higher as many people don’t go to the doctor for help.

GERD – Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid repeatedly flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus. Over time, and left untreated, repeated exposure of the esophagus to stomach acid can cause esophageal ulcers, difficulty swallowing, and even cancer.

The stomach has a special lining that protects it from being damaged by gastric acid, but the esophagus does not. As a result, when the esophagus is exposed to stomach acid, it becomes irritated and inflamed. This results in heartburn, a painful burning sensation in the chest or in the throat.

We often think of GERD as something that happens as we age. But the scary fact is it is growing, and getting younger. GERD grew +50% in the past decade. 1 in 4 teens now suffer GERD, which can lead to cancer. We found the risk of developing Barrett’s esophagus or esophageal cancer is about 30 times higher in children with GERD compared with healthy children.

The most common symptom of GERD is heartburn, which may last for several hours. It usually occurs after eating a meal or while lying down.

Other symptoms may include:

• Heartburn

• Regurgitation of stomach contents into the throat or mouth

• Bitter or sour taste

• Chest pain

• Nausea and/or vomiting

• Difficult or painful swallowing

• Hoarseness (sometimes laryngitis)

• Cough

• Sensation of a lump in the throat

Several factors can increase the risk of developing GERD, including:

• Weight gain, being overweight or obese

• Family history of GERD

• Hiatal hernia (condition in which the top of the stomach at the esophageal junction bulges into the chest)

• Smoking or inhaling secondhand smoke

• Eating fatty foods

• Drinking alcohol, coffee, or carbonated beverages

• Lying down within 3 hours of eating

• Taking certain medications including some antidepressants, calcium channel blockers (high blood pressure medications), sedatives, and some medications used to treat asthma.

"Diet plays a major role in controlling acid reflux symptoms and is the first line of therapy used for people with GERD.

https://www.memorialcare.org/blog/adult-disease-more-teens-are-getting

https://blog.uvahealth.com/2018/01/17/heartburn/

Foods commonly known to be heartburn triggers are high in fat, salt or spice.

When I worked on Mylanta and Pepcid AC – in the clinical trials we would feed people chili and red wine to spur them to have acid reflux so that we could test if the medications worked.

Other foods that can spike acid reflux include:

Fried food

Fast food

Pizza

Potato chips and other processed snacks

Chili powder and pepper (white, black, cayenne)

Fatty meats such as bacon and sausage

Cheese

Other foods that can cause the same problem include:

Tomato-based sauces

Citrus fruits

Chocolate

Peppermint

Carbonated beverages

Smoking

Caffeine

Acidic fruits like orange juice

Spicy foods

So what can we eat to avoid Acid reflux?

1. High Fiber Foods - Whole grains such as oatmeal, couscousand brown rice.

Root vegetables such as sweet potatoes, carrots and beets.

Green vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli and green beans.

High PH foods - Those with higher pH are alkaline and can help offset strong stomach acid. Alkaline foods include:

Bananas

Melons

Cauliflower

Fennel

Nuts

Drinking more water

Foods high in water like:

Celery

Cucumber

Lettuce

Watermelon

Broth-based soups

Herbal tea

How to help GERD

Avoid lying down for at least two hours after a meal or after drinking acidic beverages, like soda, or other caffeinated beverages. This can help to prevent stomach contents from flowing back into the esophagus.

Keep your head elevated while you sleep. Using an extra pillow or two can also help to prevent reflux.

Eat smaller and more frequent meals each day instead of a few large meals. This promotes digestion and can aid in preventing heartburn.

Wear loose-fitting clothes to ease pressure on the stomach, which can worsen heartburn and reflux.

Quit smoking. Smoking can increase the production of stomach acid and reduce the function of the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that keeps acid and other stomach content from reentering the esophagus. Smoking can also decrease the amount of saliva, which neutralizes acid produced by the body. Experts at NYU Langone’s Tobacco Cessation Programs can advise you on how to quit smoking for good.

Reduce excess weight around the midsection. This can ease pressure on the stomach. Such pressure can force some stomach contents back up the esophagus.

Some meds that are safe = Pepcid Ac can help reduce excess stomach acid.

Gaviscon – it creates a barrier or ‘raft’ at the top of the stomach to help the acid not go into the throat. That should help allow the esophogus to heal. Take it at night before bed. It is not uncommon for GERD to be worse in the morning. Solets see if by stopping eating 3 hours before bed, taking Gaviscon and sleeping elevated can help.

How Jump To Health can help

Add – Jump Fiber Pro – a prebiotic fiber with 2 clinically studied fibers. It helps boost the probiotic in the gut up to 45%. Studies show that this type of fiber is also good for acid reflux, and overall GI health.

A. Fiber Helps Quicken Digestion and Delayed Gastric Emptying. Diets low in fiber are associated with delayed gastric emptying and poor digestive Gastric emptying is controlled by the quantity and type of food we eat. In slow gastric emptying, acid reflux is due to increased intragastric pressure. Also, undigested food can cause burping, resulting in heartburn.

B. Fiber also helps the esophogus muscle releasing too soon or too often, by binding to nitrate oxide contained in those food. When the LES(lower esophogeal sphincter) becomes loosened, it may cause heartburn and other reflux issues.

C. Can help neutralize stomach acid.

D. Boost gut PH -

In Medical news today there was a good article on how prebiotic fibers can help restore a bacteria balance, which people with GERD tend to have. This can help then fight more GERD.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314690#treatment

Now not all fiber is created equal. We use 2 clinically studied prebiotic fibers that boost gut health, immune health, mood, regularity, satiety, which the studies show can help

Fiber Pro https://www.fluid.app/s/2042e9

2. Jump To Health Core or VPro Shake

Lean protein can help minimize GERD symptoms as can digestive enzymes - and we have both in the Core (whey based) and VPro (Plant based shakes). There are many protein shakes on the market -but most are lower quality protein sources that may not be as absorbable into lean muscle, nor as easy to digest. Both our shakes use a hydrolyzed protein that makes it 99% absorobable, and easy to digest.

We include an Isolate and then a concentrate – so that the body can utilize them more efficiently. Most shakes use a simple whey or concentrate, or pea protein. Because we use higher quality proteins our shakes not only work better, they taste better too.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314690

Slowing digestion: Protein-rich foods take longer to digest, which can help slow down the emptying of the stomach. This delay reduces the likelihood of stomach contents and acid flowing back into the esophagus.

Promoting satiety: Protein promotes feelings of fullness and satiety, which can prevent overeating and reduce the consumption of acidic or trigger foods that worsen reflux symptoms.

Supporting muscle health: Adequate protein intake is essential for maintaining muscle mass. Stronger muscles around the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) can help prevent acid reflux by effectively closing off the stomach from the esophagus.

The JTH Shakes also have a full serving of a prebiotic fiber, clinically shown to boost probiotics in the gut up to 40%, naturally (and better than many probiotic supplements). This can help with GERD in many ways, including restoring a bacteria balance to the gut.

Both shakes use Aminogen™ a clinically studied digestive enzyme shown to aid digestion and protein absorption up to 45% into lean muscle and can help fight symptoms of GERD.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9558042/

Our sweetener – is good for those with GERD. Sugar may induce symptoms of GERD. Our sweetener is isomaltulose, derived from sugar beet but the way it is processed it does not spike insulin. It has been shown in clinical studies to help both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics manage blood sugar levels, shown to help athletes have better performance, and has fat burning properties too.

https://ultraversesupplements.com/palatinose-for-ultra-running?srsltid=AfmBOoodFZ_UUrON3SBYGd7yFetPDMRXhHB6TztN-d-ZJtLoO9Z4rPzH

The shakes are lactose free, gluten free, and soy free.

 Jump to Health Protein https://www.fluid.app/s/aa95ed

3. Fruit Power, Vegetable Power – People with Gerd do not eat healthy fruits and vegetables because they cause gas, or they can spike reflux (acidic foods). Studies show that polyphenols are good for the gut, and they are good for GERD too.

Our fruit and vegetable supplement is unique in that we include Indole 3 Carbinol, which is derived from broccoli, brusselsprouts, kale. This nutrient has many health benefits and fights inflammation. It also helps fight GERD.

Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is a natural compound found in cruciferous vegetables that has been studied for its potential health benefits, including its role in modulating estrogen levels, which could impact GERD symptoms

Fruit and Vegtable  https://www.fluid.app/s/aa95ed

4. Gluco Support

The Gluco Support has several nutrients that help fight the absorption of fats, sugars and carbs in foods and meals. Taken before a meal, it can help lower the glycemic index of food, and also help shave calories from being absorbed, and fight the bloated feeling too.

One nutrient is Berberine – which has been shown to help fight GERD symptoms.

Berberine, an alkaloid found in several plants, may offer some benefits in managing GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) by potentially reducing inflammation and protecting against esophageal damage. Studies suggest it can alleviate reflux-induced airway hyperresponsiveness and suppress proinflammatory cytokines.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3786780/

 Gluco Support https://www.fluid.app/s/89709c

Eat smaller, more frequent meals to prevent overfilling the stomach.

Limit consumption of common trigger foods, such as caffeine, peppermint and chocolate. Some patients also need to cut down on fried, fatty or spicy foods.

Doctors may also recommend prescription or over-the-counter drugs that reduce the body’s production of stomach acid, including proton pump inhibitors and H2 blockers.

Time the last meal of the day at least three hours before bedtime so food can be digested while you’re still vertical and gravity helps keep digestive acids in the stomach. That no-eating period significantly relieved overnight GERD symptoms, a 2014 study published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology found.

Exercise moderately.

Get enough sleep.

High Blood Pressure and diet

High Blood Pressure and diet

Blood pressure is the pressure that occurs when blood pushes against the walls of your arteries. Today in the USA – about 1 in 2 people have high blood pressure, and many do not know it because you don’t feel symptoms.

High blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, dementia, vision loss, kidney disease, peripheral artery disease which can cause pain, cramping, and even loss of limb.

You can help your blood pressure naturally, by

• Physical activity each week (about 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week)

• Not smoking

• Eating a healthy diet, including limiting sodium (salt) and alcohol

• Keeping a healthy weight

• Managing stress

https://www.cdc.gov/high-blood-pressure/about/index.html

For those with high blood pressure

https://healthmatch.io/high-blood-pressure/foods-to-avoid-with-high-blood-pressure#what-is-high-blood-pressure

https://www.eatingwell.com/article/7571306/best-and-worst-foods-for-healthy-blood-pressure/

1. Watch the sodium. The recommended upper limit for those with Blood pressure concerns is 1500 mg, and upper limit for all at 2300 mg. Unfortunately to day the average person is getting more than double the recommended amount at 3400mg, which is also 50% more than we should.

There is a lot of salt in food – it makes bland food taste better, and can help preserve it too.

So read your labels and try cooking with out salt. Once you go low sodium, you will be amazed at how salty food tastes, and how thirsty it can make you. The sodium can also help retain water in your body which puts more pressure on your heart.

2. Another thing that increases blood pressure – which may surprise you – is sugar.

Sugar is a key contributor to heart disease.

Eating too much sugar can inhibit the production of nitric oxide (NO) in blood vessels. Nitric oxide normally helps with vasodilation (expanding of the blood vessels). Without NO, vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessels) can result, leading to high blood pressure.

https://www.verywellhealth.com/sugar-and-hypertension-5117022#:~:text=Eating%20too%20much%20sugar%20can,leading%20to%20high%20blood%20pressure

https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/007483.htm

3. Fried Foods

Fried foods like french fries or chicken wings can increase your risk for diabetes, and for high blood pressure. They raise blood pressure and can constrict blood vessels. They typically also are high in sodium.

Health fats do not. You can eat nuts, avocado, olive oil and improve your heart health, gut health and brain health.

4. Alcohol – while a glass of wine is good for our heart, especially red wine – too much of any alcohol can be bad. Alcohol can stimulate your cortisol hormone – or stress hormone, causing weight gain, fatigue, and impact your heart.

Foods to eat.

1. Healthy fats – as we already noted – walnuts, avocado, olive oil, even butter had butyric acid that boosts good bacteria in the gut, and where more butyric acid is made that helps reduce inflammation and help circulation and heart health.

2. Banana’s, beets, and spinach have potassium and that can help flush sodium from the body. We have an electrolyte balance in our KeTonic too.

3. Calcium - Calcium is vital for heart health, playing roles in heart muscle function, blood clotting, and regulating blood pressure. We have this nutrient in Vital Daily in the Vital Pak supplements from Dr. Seidman. We also have calcium and a nutrient in our Core shake that boosts absorption of calcium into the body by +47%. One Core shake a day not only fuels you with lean protein, low sodium, and full serving of prebiotic fiber – but it helps you absorb calcium from the shake and any foods you eat during the day.

4. Fiber – especially prebiotic fiber - Prebiotic fibers, such as those found in cooked garlic, cooked onions, raw asparagus, and sweet potatoes, can contribute to healthy blood pressure by promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. These bacteria produce substances, like short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which can help lower blood pressure. Additionally, prebiotic fibers can improve the absorption of minerals like calcium, which may also contribute to blood pressure management.

We have a full serving of a clinically studied and patented prebiotic fiber in the whey based Core shake, and the plant based V-Pro shake. We also have 3 types of prebiotics in our Tri-Active Fiber Pro.

How can JTH help?

1. We can help you lose and maintain your weight.

2. Our shakes are lean protein, low fat, have prebiotic fiber, and nutrients to help you absorb nutrition better. We are more than a protein shake – we are a health shake.

3. Fiber pro – unlike other fibers – this one is not gassy or gritty and it is prebiotic fiber. Other brands are not. Affordable too. Mix into your morning coffee or afternoon tea, or stir into yogurt, soup or any food and boost your heart, gut, brain, moodand overall health.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2812835/

Fiber Pro https://www.fluid.app/s/5faa27

4. Excelerade  - contains Citrulline malate is a nutrient that can help dilate blood vessels and help them stay soft and supple. It converts to arginine in the body which supports healthy blood flow, oxygen in the blood, and can support healthy blood vessels too.

Athletes often supplement with Citrulline malate for a reason!

Exelerede https://www.fluid.app/s/5faa27

5. Omega – Vital Omega is a more powerful, robust Omega blend that supports heart, bone, joint health. It is also good for skin, hair and nails.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3607063/

Vital Omega https://www.fluid.app/s/dae5c7

Portion Sizes – in the USA are HUGE compared to other countries. (article below)

https://www.infographicsarchive.com/infographic-serving-sizes-around-the-world/

More than 1/3 of Americans are obese, according to the CDC, which is most likely due to our sedentary lifestyles, high-calorie foods, and large portions. Obesity is the leading preventable cause of death worldwide.

Part of the problem is diet, but also a huge part of the problem in America is portion sizes. We did some comparative research on portion sizes around the world. How do our serving sizes compare with those around the world? And where they always that big?

It takes 20-30 minutes for your body to signal your brain you are full….so if you want to eat less (and save $) Jump To Health can help.

Black tea and berries could contribute to healthier aging

Black tea and berries could contribute to healthier aging (article below).

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/05/250505121914.htm

Research shows consumption of more flavonoids leads to better aging. Flavonoid-rich foods (berries, black tea, citrus fruits, apples) could help to lower the risk of key components of unhealthy aging, including frailty, impaired physical function and poor mental health.

Jump PowerOx tea (and all our 30 recipes) can help! Chock full of flavonoids from white, green and black tea – plus yerba mate caffeine (a gentle lift that lasts) and mood boosting power!

Out-of-Balance Nutrition

Can Impact Hair Loss

by Audrey Sommerfeld | Founder & CEO

February 2024

Hair loss – it’s a worrisome thing for many. At some point 80% of men, and 50% of women can experience loss of hair. There are many reasons we can have thinning hair:

  1. As we age our hair begins to thin naturally, as hormone production in the body slows.
  2. Hair starts growing at the root in the bottom of your hair follicle on your scalp.
  3. Your scalp’s blood vessels feed the root, creating more cells and making your hair grow.
  4. Hair pushes up and out through your skin. It passes through oil glands that help keep it soft and shiny.
  5. Hair grows for a while but then falls out as each new regrowth cycle begins.

Nutrition can impact hair loss. Foods to avoid:

  1. Sugars.
  2. Starch white foods.
  3. Alcohol as it slows the zinc in your body.
  4. Artificial sweeteners.
  5. Too much salt.

Medical situations that that can impact hair loss.

 1. Thyroid: If you are seeing large amounts of hair loss, the first thing to do is to get your thyroid tested. When hormone production is disrupted, specifically of hormones T3 and T4Trusted Source, it affects other processes in the body including energy, weight gain, weight loss, and hair loss amongst other things.. This includes the development of hair at the root. Hair falls out and may not be replaced by new growth, resulting in thinning across your scalp and other areas such as your eyebrows.

2. Auto-immune disorders: Alopecia is an autoimmune condition often seen with thyroid conditions. It causes patches of hair loss in more discrete areas. Over time, though, this condition may cause baldness. Other autoimmune diseases that may lead to hair loss and are often linked to thyroid issues include Lupus, POCS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and others. People with autoimmune thyroid disorders should watch their iodine intake. The body uses iodine to make thyroid hormone, so too much may lead to imbalances. Kelp and other kinds of seaweed are high in iodine and may worsen symptoms, including hair loss. Certain multivitamins and cough syrups may also contain iodine, so read labels carefully.

3. High fever, and illnesses.

4. Medications: If you recently changed your medications, or changed the amounts – this can affect hair loss too. Anti-convulsants, blood thinners, heart medications can impact your hair.

5. Hair styles: Wearing your hair in a pony tail, or tight to your head style every day can cause more hair thinning too.

6. Stress and Anxiety can increase hair loss.

7. Heredity – if thin hair runs in the family, or baldness, you may be at higher risk of thinning hair.

8. Nutrition deficiencies: There are some nutritional deficiencies that cause hair loss you might not be aware of. Our hair is only as healthy as our diet and how well our body absorbs the nutrients we eat. When we aren’t properly digesting food and getting the right nutrients, our bodies can’t do their magical thing and keep us looking and feeling great.

Our hair, skin, and nails are often some of the first physical signs something is missing in our diets. If your hair has been falling out, thinning, or breaking off at the ends, you might want to take a look at these nutritional deficiencies that cause hair loss.

9. Zinc and minerals – being deficient can impact hair health and hair loss. With KeTonic – you get a bunch of minerals. KeTonic is a mineral absorbing booster. So you will get more benefits from the foods you eat just by having this.

10. Healthy Fats- eating too little healthy fats can impact your hair, skin and nails.

Nutrition can fight hair loss.

Foods that boost healthy hair.

1. Eggs – packed with biotin and healthy fats to so support healthy hair. Also cauliflower and mushrooms and nuts. These are key in our New You In 22 program – they are packed with nutrition, low glycemic and promote healthy weight, and healthy hair. With our Mug cake or bundt cake recipes – not only do you get healthy fats, but also healthy prebiotics and protein to boost hair health.

2. Berries – they have phytonutrients and vitamin C to help boost immune health and fight hair loss. Vitamin C – is also found in kale, spinach, brussel sprouts. These are also in our New You In 22 program – and we have some amazing recipes that make these taste so good the whole family will eat it. And…well stay tuned – an updated product coming soon with more immune boosting, hair supporting benefits!

3. Spinach – has many nutrients including vitamin A which helps produce sebum to moisturize the scalp and hair.

4. Omegas – found in fatty fish like salmon, mackeral, sardines. We have them in our shake naturally from the sunflower and flax lecithin. It’s also hard to get enough so we recommend everyone take an omega supplement. One study showed that fish oil supplement significantly reduced hair loss and increased hair growth in women with thinning hair. A study in 120 women found that taking a supplement containing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as well as antioxidants reduced hair loss and increased hair density. I get mine at Costco and it has fish, pumpkin seed, flax. Oh – our VPRo shake would be good too – with the pumpkin seed protein.

5. Avocados – a great source of Vitamin E, which helps promote hair growth and is also a healthy fat. We have recipes using avocado in our New You In 22 program.

6. Shrimp – a serving of shrimp provides almost 1/3 of your daily requirement for Vitamin D 3 which has been shown to reduce hair loss. So a Vitamin D3 supplement can be helpful. The shrimp also have omegas so you get that benefit too.

7. Iron – from meat – or the easily absorbed form we have in the Core shake helps too. You can also get this in red meat. And for a great recipe – the New You In 22 Cheeseburger casserole or stroganoff meatballs give you a lot of healthy benefits!

8. Nuts – healthy fats and fiber, have been shown to help fight hair loss.

How Jump To Health products can help fight hair loss.

An anti-inflammatory diet can help fight hair loss – and Jump can help.

With our New You In 22 program, and our Power 2 program,

you can eat healthy, save money, and get good nutrition.

The gut is where 90% of our serotonin and 84% of our immune system resides. It is where our nutrition is absorbed.

1If we have a bad gut bacteria imbalance, not only can we gain weight eating the same food as a thin person – but it can impact sleep, mood, and your hair.

It has been clinically demonstrated that chicory root fiber enhances calcium absorption, which reaches the bones and makes them stronger. Scientific research on chicory root fiber has been ongoing for 20 years, and the prebiotic effect is clinically proven. Other plant-based dietary fibers may claim a prebiotic effect, yet none provide the scientific evidence.

It also helps with stress. One study on 5 gr of prebiotic fiber, the amount in our shakes and Fiber Pro showed college students had 40% fewer colds, and that it had a protective effect against stress.

Another study from Oxford University showed researchers at Oxford University has demonstrated that prebiotics affected emotional responses as well as the levels of stress hormones produced by otherwise healthy volunteers. helps fight inflammation – and all disease starts with inflammation.

To get enough prebiotics that are in our Fiber Pro, you’d need to eat 1.3 pounds of bananas. It also slows sugar absorption if added to foods like juices, to help offset the inflammation that sugar can bring to the body, and the blood stream.

Getting easy to digest protein, at every meal helps with muscle, hair,

skin health and more.

Jump shakes have no simple sugar or fructose – which can wreck gut health – and yet are natural. And we have the clinically studied enzyme to help you better use this yummy protein shake.

Hair is 90% protein, so if you are not getting enough in each meal – your hair, skin, nails all can suffer. Being protein deficient can result in water retention, puffy eyes, lack luster hair, skin and nails, even irritability, dermatitis and skin discoloration.

Nutritionists recommend 20-25 gr of protein per meal, with healthy protein snacks in between. Yet most people get their protein primarily in their evening meal – skipping breakfast or having muffins, bagels and other carbs. In Jump's New You In 22 we have an amazing Bagel recipe made from our shakes and Fiber Pro! Get protein, prebiotic fiber, and boost your health with a Jump To Health protein bagel – with only 3 net carbs!

As we age our bodies slow down making it harder to consume protein. This is the #1 reason people enter nursing homes – loss of muscle. We lose around 10 oz. of muscle per year starting at age 30 – and around age 40 we notice it when we get winded walking up the stairs. This is loss of muscle.

Diet and exercise can help you retain more lean muscle – which is why the Core and V PRO shakes are so powerful. Both contain 3 different types of high quality proteins, PLUS Clinically studied enzymes shown to help you absorb up to 40% more protein into your muscle, hair, skin, cells and more. Plus with prebiotic fiber – it boosts the immune system, and your gut where nutrition is absorbed.

Antioxidants – A, C, E - help prevent free radical damage in the hair follicles.

Vitamin A is present in fish oils, liver, egg yolks, butter and vitamin A-fortified dairy products.

Additionally, vitamin A is a product of beta-carotene in carrots, and also green leafy and yellow vegetables, and deep and bright colored fruit.

Vitamin A deficiency can result from inadequate intake, fat malabsorption and liver disorders, and can lead to numerous ophthalmologic, systemic and dermatologic conditions.

So when we say the Fruit & Vegetable capsulesare powerful – this is one of the many reasons why. The Fruit and Vegetable capsules – support many body functions.

  1. They help remove heavy metals from the body and support the body’s natural liver detox system.

  2. Then they have high levels of polyphenols – which are anti-inflammatory.

One ingredient in these capsules is indole 3 carbinol, which has been shown in studies to help balance hormones in men and women.

Since hormones affect the hair health and thyroid – our Fruit and Vegetable Power products can help rid the body of toxins, may reduce the risk of some cancers, supports healthy bones, teeth, heart, and digestive health, liver, eye health, blood sugar and more.

There is a reason your mom told you to eat your broccoli – it has been known to promote hair growth! Indole 3 carbinol is found in broccoli, brussel sprouts, and why Kale is a super food. And Vegetable Power has about 37 cups of kale of this one nutrient alone.

B Vitamins – including Biotin – can make hair stronger.

  1. Niacin (B3) - Niacin plays an important role in cell metabolism, namely oxidation-reduction reactions.

  2. Vitamin B6 is an important co-factor in many enzymatic reactions of amino acid, lipid and glucose metabolism. Deficiency of vitamin B6 can result from excessive food processing, under-nutrition, malabsorption, renal disease and alcoholism, and drugs such as anticonvulsants, corticosteroids or penicillamine.

  3. Vitamin B12 - plays a key role in metabolism, nervous system function and red blood cell formation. Inadequate diet (vegan diet), impaired absorption (lack of intrinsic factor, decreased GI acid secretion, small bowel disease) and drugs (antacids, metformin) can impact this.

This is why we have B vitamins in a lot of our products, PLUS we have in the botanicals in KeTonic and Excelerade that help your body absorb MORE of the amino acids from the foods you eat; to help you get better nutrition and aid protein absorption too; along with MORE Mineral absorption.

 Learn About Ketonic https://www.fluid.app/s/c39657

Learn about Excelerade https://www.fluid.app/s/02ecb5

And these have been clinically studied to increase muscle health, workout recovery, and are anti-inflammatory too.
