Can Impact Hair Loss

February 2024

Hair loss – it’s a worrisome thing for many. At some point 80% of men, and 50% of women can experience loss of hair. There are many reasons we can have thinning hair:

  1. As we age our hair begins to thin naturally, as hormone production in the body slows.
  2. Hair starts growing at the root in the bottom of your hair follicle on your scalp.
  3. Your scalp’s blood vessels feed the root, creating more cells and making your hair grow.
  4. Hair pushes up and out through your skin. It passes through oil glands that help keep it soft and shiny.
  5. Hair grows for a while but then falls out as each new regrowth cycle begins.

Nutrition can impact hair loss. Foods to avoid:

  1. Sugars.
  2. Starch white foods.
  3. Alcohol as it slows the zinc in your body.
  4. Artificial sweeteners.
  5. Too much salt.

Medical situations that that can impact hair loss.

 1. Thyroid: If you are seeing large amounts of hair loss, the first thing to do is to get your thyroid tested. When hormone production is disrupted, specifically of hormones T3 and T4Trusted Source, it affects other processes in the body including energy, weight gain, weight loss, and hair loss amongst other things.. This includes the development of hair at the root. Hair falls out and may not be replaced by new growth, resulting in thinning across your scalp and other areas such as your eyebrows.

2. Auto-immune disorders: Alopecia is an autoimmune condition often seen with thyroid conditions. It causes patches of hair loss in more discrete areas. Over time, though, this condition may cause baldness. Other autoimmune diseases that may lead to hair loss and are often linked to thyroid issues include Lupus, POCS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and others. People with autoimmune thyroid disorders should watch their iodine intake. The body uses iodine to make thyroid hormone, so too much may lead to imbalances. Kelp and other kinds of seaweed are high in iodine and may worsen symptoms, including hair loss. Certain multivitamins and cough syrups may also contain iodine, so read labels carefully.

3. High fever, and illnesses.

4. Medications: If you recently changed your medications, or changed the amounts – this can affect hair loss too. Anti-convulsants, blood thinners, heart medications can impact your hair.

5. Hair styles: Wearing your hair in a pony tail, or tight to your head style every day can cause more hair thinning too.

6. Stress and Anxiety can increase hair loss.

7. Heredity – if thin hair runs in the family, or baldness, you may be at higher risk of thinning hair.

8. Nutrition deficiencies: There are some nutritional deficiencies that cause hair loss you might not be aware of. Our hair is only as healthy as our diet and how well our body absorbs the nutrients we eat. When we aren’t properly digesting food and getting the right nutrients, our bodies can’t do their magical thing and keep us looking and feeling great.

Our hair, skin, and nails are often some of the first physical signs something is missing in our diets. If your hair has been falling out, thinning, or breaking off at the ends, you might want to take a look at these nutritional deficiencies that cause hair loss.

9. Zinc and minerals – being deficient can impact hair health and hair loss. With KeTonic – you get a bunch of minerals. KeTonic is a mineral absorbing booster. So you will get more benefits from the foods you eat just by having this.

10. Healthy Fats- eating too little healthy fats can impact your hair, skin and nails.

Nutrition can fight hair loss.

Foods that boost healthy hair.

1. Eggs – packed with biotin and healthy fats to so support healthy hair. Also cauliflower and mushrooms and nuts. These are key in our New You In 22 program – they are packed with nutrition, low glycemic and promote healthy weight, and healthy hair. With our Mug cake or bundt cake recipes – not only do you get healthy fats, but also healthy prebiotics and protein to boost hair health.

2. Berries – they have phytonutrients and vitamin C to help boost immune health and fight hair loss. Vitamin C – is also found in kale, spinach, brussel sprouts. These are also in our New You In 22 program – and we have some amazing recipes that make these taste so good the whole family will eat it. And…well stay tuned – an updated product coming soon with more immune boosting, hair supporting benefits!

3. Spinach – has many nutrients including vitamin A which helps produce sebum to moisturize the scalp and hair.

4. Omegas – found in fatty fish like salmon, mackeral, sardines. We have them in our shake naturally from the sunflower and flax lecithin. It’s also hard to get enough so we recommend everyone take an omega supplement. One study showed that fish oil supplement significantly reduced hair loss and increased hair growth in women with thinning hair. A study in 120 women found that taking a supplement containing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as well as antioxidants reduced hair loss and increased hair density. I get mine at Costco and it has fish, pumpkin seed, flax. Oh – our VPRo shake would be good too – with the pumpkin seed protein.

5. Avocados – a great source of Vitamin E, which helps promote hair growth and is also a healthy fat. We have recipes using avocado in our New You In 22 program.

6. Shrimp – a serving of shrimp provides almost 1/3 of your daily requirement for Vitamin D 3 which has been shown to reduce hair loss. So a Vitamin D3 supplement can be helpful. The shrimp also have omegas so you get that benefit too.

7. Iron – from meat – or the easily absorbed form we have in the Core shake helps too. You can also get this in red meat. And for a great recipe – the New You In 22 Cheeseburger casserole or stroganoff meatballs give you a lot of healthy benefits!

8. Nuts – healthy fats and fiber, have been shown to help fight hair loss.

How Jump To Health products can help fight hair loss.

An anti-inflammatory diet can help fight hair loss – and Jump can help.

With our New You In 22 program, and our Power 2 program,

you can eat healthy, save money, and get good nutrition.

The gut is where 90% of our serotonin and 84% of our immune system resides. It is where our nutrition is absorbed.

1If we have a bad gut bacteria imbalance, not only can we gain weight eating the same food as a thin person – but it can impact sleep, mood, and your hair.

It has been clinically demonstrated that chicory root fiber enhances calcium absorption, which reaches the bones and makes them stronger. Scientific research on chicory root fiber has been ongoing for 20 years, and the prebiotic effect is clinically proven. Other plant-based dietary fibers may claim a prebiotic effect, yet none provide the scientific evidence.

It also helps with stress. One study on 5 gr of prebiotic fiber, the amount in our shakes and Fiber Pro showed college students had 40% fewer colds, and that it had a protective effect against stress.

Another study from Oxford University showed researchers at Oxford University has demonstrated that prebiotics affected emotional responses as well as the levels of stress hormones produced by otherwise healthy volunteers. helps fight inflammation – and all disease starts with inflammation.

To get enough prebiotics that are in our Fiber Pro, you’d need to eat 1.3 pounds of bananas. It also slows sugar absorption if added to foods like juices, to help offset the inflammation that sugar can bring to the body, and the blood stream.

Getting easy to digest protein, at every meal helps with muscle, hair,

skin health and more.

Jump shakes have no simple sugar or fructose – which can wreck gut health – and yet are natural. And we have the clinically studied enzyme to help you better use this yummy protein shake.

Hair is 90% protein, so if you are not getting enough in each meal – your hair, skin, nails all can suffer. Being protein deficient can result in water retention, puffy eyes, lack luster hair, skin and nails, even irritability, dermatitis and skin discoloration.

Nutritionists recommend 20-25 gr of protein per meal, with healthy protein snacks in between. Yet most people get their protein primarily in their evening meal – skipping breakfast or having muffins, bagels and other carbs. In Jump's New You In 22 we have an amazing Bagel recipe made from our shakes and Fiber Pro! Get protein, prebiotic fiber, and boost your health with a Jump To Health protein bagel – with only 3 net carbs!

As we age our bodies slow down making it harder to consume protein. This is the #1 reason people enter nursing homes – loss of muscle. We lose around 10 oz. of muscle per year starting at age 30 – and around age 40 we notice it when we get winded walking up the stairs. This is loss of muscle.

Diet and exercise can help you retain more lean muscle – which is why the Core and V PRO shakes are so powerful. Both contain 3 different types of high quality proteins, PLUS Clinically studied enzymes shown to help you absorb up to 40% more protein into your muscle, hair, skin, cells and more. Plus with prebiotic fiber – it boosts the immune system, and your gut where nutrition is absorbed.

Antioxidants – A, C, E - help prevent free radical damage in the hair follicles.

Vitamin A is present in fish oils, liver, egg yolks, butter and vitamin A-fortified dairy products.

Additionally, vitamin A is a product of beta-carotene in carrots, and also green leafy and yellow vegetables, and deep and bright colored fruit.

Vitamin A deficiency can result from inadequate intake, fat malabsorption and liver disorders, and can lead to numerous ophthalmologic, systemic and dermatologic conditions.

So when we say the Fruit & Vegetable capsulesare powerful – this is one of the many reasons why. The Fruit and Vegetable capsules – support many body functions.

  1. They help remove heavy metals from the body and support the body’s natural liver detox system.

  2. Then they have high levels of polyphenols – which are anti-inflammatory.

One ingredient in these capsules is indole 3 carbinol, which has been shown in studies to help balance hormones in men and women.

Since hormones affect the hair health and thyroid – our Fruit and Vegetable Power products can help rid the body of toxins, may reduce the risk of some cancers, supports healthy bones, teeth, heart, and digestive health, liver, eye health, blood sugar and more.

There is a reason your mom told you to eat your broccoli – it has been known to promote hair growth! Indole 3 carbinol is found in broccoli, brussel sprouts, and why Kale is a super food. And Vegetable Power has about 37 cups of kale of this one nutrient alone.

B Vitamins – including Biotin – can make hair stronger.

  1. Niacin (B3) - Niacin plays an important role in cell metabolism, namely oxidation-reduction reactions.

  2. Vitamin B6 is an important co-factor in many enzymatic reactions of amino acid, lipid and glucose metabolism. Deficiency of vitamin B6 can result from excessive food processing, under-nutrition, malabsorption, renal disease and alcoholism, and drugs such as anticonvulsants, corticosteroids or penicillamine.

  3. Vitamin B12 - plays a key role in metabolism, nervous system function and red blood cell formation. Inadequate diet (vegan diet), impaired absorption (lack of intrinsic factor, decreased GI acid secretion, small bowel disease) and drugs (antacids, metformin) can impact this.

This is why we have B vitamins in a lot of our products, PLUS we have in the botanicals in KeTonic and Excelerade that help your body absorb MORE of the amino acids from the foods you eat; to help you get better nutrition and aid protein absorption too; along with MORE Mineral absorption.
