Inflammation and Diet: Key Insights into Chronic Inflammation and Dietary Choices

Inflammation is a natural response of your body, essential for fighting off harmful pathogens and foreign invaders. However, when inflammation becomes chronic, it can lead to serious health issues like Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and can accelerate the aging process.

Recognizing Inflammation: More Than Just Aches and Pains

While aches and pains are common indicators of inflammation, there are subtler signs to watch for:

  1. Chronic fatigue and insomnia
  2. Mood disorders such as depression and anxiety
  3. Gastrointestinal problems like constipation, diarrhea, and acid reflux
  4. Weight fluctuations
  5. Frequent infections

The Role of Diet in Exacerbating Inflammation

Our modern diet, rich in sugars and unhealthy fats, contributes significantly to increased inflammation. Fructose consumption, in particular, poses a significant threat to health. Historically, human bodies were designed to handle only about 4-6 pounds of fructose per year. Shockingly, current estimates suggest that the average consumption has surged to between 40-60 pounds per year, correlating with a sharp increase in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which now affects individuals as young as two years old.

The Dangers of Fructose:

  1. Metabolic Syndrome: Increased blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, and abdominal fat.
  2. Insulin Resistance and Diabetes: Higher risk due to disrupted glucose metabolism.
  3. Obesity and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Direct links to excessive fructose intake.
  4. Increased Risk of Cancer: Particularly colorectal cancer due to enhanced intestinal permeability and bacterial growth.
  5. Heart Health: Fructose consumption contributes to inflammation in blood vessels and other heart disease risk factors.

Quick Tip: If you see fructose listed among the first four ingredients on a label, or if it's not accompanied by fiber, it's best to avoid that product. Fiber can help offset some of the negative effects of fructose by slowing its absorption and aiding in digestion.

Foods and Habits that Worsen Inflammation:

  1. High Sugar and Fructose Intake: Linked to metabolic syndrome, obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and various cancers. These are especially harmful in crystalline fructose.
  2. Unhealthy Fats: Margarine and other processed fats which can increase Omega 6 fatty acids that may promote inflammation.
  3. Refined Carbohydrates: Foods like white bread and pastries exacerbate inflammatory responses.
  4. Obesity and Smoking: Both contribute to increased cytokine production, which promotes inflammation.
  5. Stress and Poor Sleep: These lifestyle factors can significantly worsen inflammatory responses.

Anti-inflammatory Diet: What to Eat to Fight Inflammation

Adopting an anti-inflammatory diet can drastically reduce inflammation markers. Here are some key components:

  1. Omega-rich Fatty Fish: Such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines.
  2. Healthy Fats: Include avocados, olive oil, butter, and full-fat dairy in your diet.
  3. Fiber-Rich Foods: Especially prebiotic fibers found in asparagus, onions, and chicory root, which support gut health and reduce sugar absorption.
  4. Antioxidant-rich Fruits: Berries like blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries help fight inflammation and prevent chronic diseases.
  5. Greens and Superfoods: Kale, broccoli, and spinach are high in anti-inflammatory compounds.

Facts and myths about Methylene Blue

Methylene Blue

Methylene blue is a synthetic dye, that was originally used to color paper, wool, silk, and cotton fabric. Later it was used by researchers as a stain for identifying bacteria and parasites.arasites.

In medicine – it is an antioxidant that can help a rare blood disorder that affects how red blood cells work in the body.

It has previously been used for treating cyanide poisoning and urinary tract infections, but this use is no longer recommended.

Methylene blue is a medication and laboratory-made dye that has been repurposed for many different uses. However, it’s only approved to treat acquired methemoglobinemia. People who are pregnant or nursing, take medications that raise serotonin levels, or have a G6PD deficiency should avoid this medication.

It does not really have a ‘feel’ impact or energizing effect. It is not without risk. Methylene blue has a boxed warning — the FDA’s most serious type of warning — for a risk of serotonin syndrome when used with other medications that raise serotonin levels. Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition that is caused by too much serotonin in the brain. Symptoms can include muscle spasms, sweating, and agitation, among others.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24115-methemoglobinemia

The dietary supplement “Recharge” by TWC (The Wellness Company) is $98.99 a month on smartship.

They have 2 ingredients – Urolithin A, and Methylene Blue.

They claim it increases ATP (energy in the cell) and promotes healthy aging, healthy brain, and is an antioxidant.

1. 500 mg Methylene Blue – not approved as a dietary supplement. May have serious side effects at 500mg, their dosage.

“Generally considered unsafe at this high dose without medical supervision: While lower doses of methylene blue (e.g., 10-30mg) may be explored for off-label uses, 500 mg is significantly above the typical range and poses potential risks.

Potential for Serotonin Syndrome: Combining 500 mg of methylene blue with serotonergic drugs (like many antidepressants) dramatically increases the risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition.

Other Risks: Even without drug interactions, high oral doses can cause gastrointestinal issues, methemoglobinemia (iron in the blood unable to carry oxygen) at doses exceeding 7 mg/kg, and other adverse effects.”

Some medicines that should not be taken with methylene blue include:

“Certain medicines for depression or anxiety, including bupropion (Aplenzin, Forfivo, Wellbutrin), clomipramine (Anafranil), citalopram (Celexa), doxepin (Silenor), duloxetine (Cymbalta), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), trazodone, and venlafaxine (Effexor)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) for depression, such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), and tranylcypromine (Parnate)

Milnacipran (Savella), which treats fibromyalgia

Mirtazapine (Remeron), a tetracyclic antidepressant

Rasagiline (Azilect) and selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), Parkinson’s disease treatments

St. John's wort, a supplement

Tryptophan, a supplement

Antidepressant medications are a concern because of a complication called serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is a drug reaction that happens when medication combinations create high levels of serotonin in your body. You can have mild symptoms like shivering and diarrhea or severe symptoms like muscle rigidity, fever, and seizures. It can even cause death if you don't treat it.”

2. Urolithin – A – 30mg – found in food like pomegranate, berries, walnuts – may support muscle health and fight inflammation. Need to be careful if have liver or kidney issues. It is an antioxidant and promotes healthy aging.

Research has been primarily in rodent models, and more human research is needed. Generally considered safe.

Acetyl L-Carnitine HCI - Most of the cells in your body contain carnitine, which your liver and kidneys make. Carnitine helps your cells produce energy. Studies show this nutrient may help support healthy, active brain function and slow or lower the risks of aging. It has also been studied and shown to support healthy mood, fighting sad feelings. It can also support healthy blood sugar.

Alpha Lipoic Acid - is an antioxidant found in every cell, where it helps turn glucose into energy. Antioxidants attack "free radicals," waste products created when the body turns food into energy. Free radicals cause harmful chemical reactions that can damage cells, making it harder for the body to fight off infections. They also damage organs and tissues. This may help fight symptoms of neuropathy from diabetes, and may support healthy blood sugar levels too. It supports healthy brain and vision. It can also support fighting inflammation in the gut.

Coenzyme Q10 – is a powerful antioxidant found in every cell in the body. Free radicals can contribute to the aging process, and damage cell membranes, even our DNA. CoQ10 can help energy production in the cells, and help neutralize free radicals. It has many benefits for immune, heart, brain, and cellular health.

L-Glutathione – is a nutrient found in the body. It is involved in tissue building and repair, making chemicals and proteins needed in the body, and in immune system function. Glutathione is involved in detoxification, and helps the cells remove waste, and helps neutralize oxidants. It can help strengthen the gut wall too, fighting leaky gut syndrome.

Glutathione can help protect our bodies from several health issues, increase fat metabolism, and support brain health too.

•Helps make DNA, the building blocks of proteins and cells.

•Supports immune function.

•Breaking down some free radicals.

•Regenerating vitamins C and E

•Transporting mercury out of the brain

•Helping the liver and gallbladder deal with fats

•Assisting regular cell death (a process known as apoptosis)

PDCAAS scores. Protein shakes are not equal- quality of ingredients matter.

1 in 2 homes have a protein shake - but is it going to help your health, or hurt it? On this blog we learn about shakes and ingredients.

I have been asked why it is easier to lose weight or build muscle, or get healthier heart, bones, gut with Jump to Health than other shakes. Some people have tried to follow our Keto program, or our 2 shake a day program with other shakes – and not lost weight.

That is because there are a lot of not so good shakes on the market. And because not every company follows rules for PDCAAS scores. You can see products claim ‘protein’ on their label – to find out its gelatin – or collagen – not complete proteins, and not going to build lean muscle or boost your health.

cartons of a dozen eggs. It’s a lot.

https://www.healthline.com/health-news/ozempic-muscle-mass-loss

And now we have a bunch of companies marketing shakes to those on Ozempic or Wegovy, to help prevent muscle loss. Yes – you need to eat more protein if you are taking the shot. And you can’teat healthy foods like broccoli or cauliflower – which is why I say give us a chance first. You heard Emory – he lost 14.5 lbs in 30 days. That is weight loss you notice. Go pick up 3 packs of potatoes and walk around a store, or imagine 10

This past week I talked to someone who won’t try our shake – because their doctor recommended they drink Ensure instead. What they don’t realize is Ensure is promoted by a drug company, Abbott Labs. Drug companies spend a lot of money having Sales reps visit doctors offices and drop off samples, lunches and other information. Doctors will likely listen to a drug company because they get more training in medication. In their career they get on average only 8 hours of nutrition training but they get thousands of visits and information on drugs. So when a drug company recommends a shake – they listen. Not because its’ the best shake. And nutritionists that work for a hospital or medical practice are required to promote what the hospital says – not necessarily what is best.

I don’t recommend Ensure for weight management – my opinion is that it is lower quality and will make you lose lean muscle. So letscompare.

Ensure original is 220 calories. Our shake blended with fruit and milk or almond or soy milk is about that too.

They have 6 gr fat – we have about half of that.

They have 34 grams of carbs – we have 1/3 of that and ours is from fiber and has a net carb of 1.5.

They have net carbs of 29 including 10 gr of sugar.

They have only 3 grams of fiber – or ½ of what we do. They are not a full serving of fiber. Their fiber is coming from the gum thickeners, ours is coming from a clinically studied, patented prebiotic fiber shown to boost the good probiotics in your gut up to 40%, and boost immune health, regularity, satiety, and can help balance your hunger hormones too.

They have 10 gr of sugar – and also have sucralose. So 10 gr of sugar is not necessarily good for a diabetic or prediabetic in one drink. They have more sugar than protein.

Let that sink in. more sugar than protein.

Jump To Health has a clinically studied, natural sweetener shown to help control blood sugar in both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics. The FDA is considering allowing us to remove it from the sugar portion of the label because of that.

Protein – they have 9 grams. Only 9 grams! That is not enough for a meal. That is like eating 1 egg.

A meal should be 25-30 grams. They are 9 and their protein includes non-fat milk, along with milk protein concentrate and a little soy isolate. So you are pretty much getting sugared milk.

Our shake provides the amount for a meal -25-30 grams and is a higher quality protein. We use whey hydrolysate, which is 99% absorbable along with whey isolate which is 90% absorbable, and whey concentrate that is 80-85% absorbable – and that is before we add in Aminogen that boosts absorption into lean muscel 45%.

And more protein too – 33% more protein even before adding milk. If you remove milk from their label you are getting about 2 grams of protein from the soy isolate. Think on that.

We add in Aminogen – a patented and clinically studied digestive enzyme shown to increase the amount of protein you absorb into your lean muscle +45% more. They do not have a digestive enzyme. We have AstraGin – a clinically studied nutrient to boost protein absorption another 25%, along with boosting vitamin and mineral absorption +47% and more. So our shake is good for muscle, digestion, regularity, immunity, probiotics.

And look at the order of the nutrients on Ensure. The first ingredient is water, followed by corn maltodextrin, followed by sugar – milk protein is the 4th item. The soy isolate – the higher absorbing protein is #6, after oils.

JTH – the first ingredient is protein, then protein, thenp rebioticfiber. Then protein. We also use natural flavors – they do not.

Cost – they are $1.62 a serving on Amazon prime. Ok. That is about $0.50 less a serving, for 60% less protein, no prebiotic fiber, no digestive enzymes, no mineral booster. To get the same nutrition you’d need to add Aminogen - $1.00 a serving on Amazon, add AstraGin – about $0.50 a serving, add prebiotic Fiber about $0.70 a serving, and add our sweetener to help control blood sugar – about $0.40 a serving $3.82 a serving to get similar nutrition as ours for $2.40 a serving when mixed as directed. 30 days = $43 more per month than our shake. Or you could get 2 bags of ours for the price of theirs with adding fiber, enzymes, and nutrients.

So you can see that you get better value and better health boosting power with Jump To Health.

But ok – that is a drug store brand. What if we look at a sports supplement store – GNC Ideal Shake.

Think it's better because it's in a store? Lets compare:

Cost =$3.12 a serving = 44% more. Price than ours.

Protein sources - whey concentrate, milk protein, nonfat dry milk. Notice that the whey isolate is after the 'natural and artificial' flavors. So you are basically getting whey concentrate and milk along with flavor.

Maltodextrin is the 2nd ingredient. A starch.

Corn syrup solids -a sugar that does not need to be labeled as sugar - is #4.

2 artificial sweeteners.

slimfast powder) - good grief. No wonder people struggle with losing weight on other programs. This shake has only 2 gr protein, 9 gr sugar. First ingredient is sugar. And it's a Milk Protein - not the most muscle building protein, and it is waaay down the list. And this one is supposed to help you lose weight? Lose muscle is more like it.

So how do you know what is high quality?

Well the International markets are different than the USA market. Here the US government and USDA look at grams of protein, not quality of protein. So you can see a lot of products like Premier Protein at Costco – being marketed with bold “30 grams of protein” on the label. But what they don’t’ tell you is how much is absorbable into the lean muscle, and how much is not.

The international markets like Canada use something called a PDCAAS score or rating. It rates protein on quality vs. quantity. We formulated our Core and VPRo shakes to meet the strict PDCAAS requirements of Health Canada – one of the hardest to be approved in.

Many USA companies are not allowed in Canada, because they do not meet these PDCAAS requirements.

They also do not meet the requirements for lecithin, a healthy fat that supports brain health and metabolism.

We do.

This is also why several brands were booted out of Canada. Both retail brands and Direct Selling companies.

Big brands too – are not in Canada. Jump To Health was formulated to meet the stringent Health Canada requirements. And we have NPN’s or Health Canada approvals on our supplements too.

So look at the label. See what is in the first 4 ingredients. See if they have a hydrolysate protein. See if there is more protein than sugar, and check that the fiber is a good fiber or is just gums.

If you don’t see hydolysate, isolate – its not going to be as good.

oCore: Uses Whey Concentrate, Whey Isolate and Whey hydrolysate (most don’t use all three/only concentrate)

oV-Pro: Uses Non-GMO Pumpkin Seed Protein, Pea Isolate and Pea hydrolysate.

So, both of our shakes use a hydrolysate, an isolate, and then a concentrate for better absorption.

The shakes are lactose free. Gluten free. Soy free. Sucralose free. And natural flavors. Not artificial.

We also add in Aminogen. Guaranteed 99.9% of shakes don’t’ have this patented, clinically studied digestive enzyme.

Several people have asked about Collagen.

Collagen is now carrying warnings on the labels that these cannot be used for weight loss, as they are not complete proteins and they do not build lean muscle. Great for skin, hair, joints, nails – but not muscle.

There are other nutrients in our shake that make it better at building lean muscle vs. other shakes. I will cover that in a minute.

So when I look at a shake label I look at

1. Quality of protein

2. If it has fiber in it

3. Type of fiber

4. Sweetener

5. Type of sweetener

6. If it has digestive enzymes and what type.

I will look at other things too – like the flavors, and where they are listed on the label as that can also tell me a lot about the quality of the formula. The closer to the top of the ingredient list means they add more flavor to get it to taste good.

I look at the ingredients and the first 4 ingredients. If you see sugar or a sweetener in the first 4 ingredients, in my opinion – that is showing you less quality because sugar can help mask bitter flavor.

We like to say if you see a sweetener or sugar in the first 4 ingredients – put it back.

Then I look at Fiber. Does the protein shake have a full serving 5 grams – of fiber, and what type is it?

I can guarantee you the vast majority of shakes do NOT have fiber in them. Or 5 grams or higher

Then I look at the type of fiber. We have 5.5 grams in our shake from a patented, clinically tested prebiotic fiber shown to boost health, satiety, stool quality, regularity, gut permeability, lower cholesterol and help blood sugar too.

The vast majority -if they have fiber – it is guar gum, or acacia gum – used to help keep the product mixed into the liquid. It is technically a fiber, but it is also technically just a thickener. It will not boost probiotics in the gut, help stool quality or regularity, or lower cholesterol like the Jump To Health shakes.

I look at the sweetener. Many shakes use artificial sweetners to make them diabetic friendly. Many have now moved to fructose or crystalline fructose as those are natural and don’t spike insulin. However, those are typically high fructose corn syrup which can impact liver health. Some us lo han or monk fruit – but we don’tbecause it is not allowed to be used in shakes in Canada. It is only allowed to be used as s table sugar in Canada.

We use isomaltulose – the brand we use is Palatinose. It has been clinically studied in diabetics, athletes, weight loss. A new study came out saying not only does it help keep blood sugar stable, it also helps nourish gut health and boost probiotics in the gut.

So our shake protein is easier to digest, higher quality, more absorbing.

We have a prebiotic fiber with many health benefits.

And we have a sweetener that is natural with many health benefits.

So when I get asked can I use other shakes and lose weight? You may lose weight – not as fast as with JTH. You may lose lean muscle – vs. building it with JTH.

You won’t boost gut health, heart health, immune health, or brain health like JTH.

And our shake is approved by Health Canada – and meets their needs for the highest PDCASS score.

https://nulivscience.com/blog/astragin-protein-absorption

And it is good for kids too. Kids age 4-12 can have 1 scoop of shake, kids 12+ can have a full shake.

The shake can be used in smoothies, made into pancakes, protein muffins, mug cakes and can be used Keto and non –keto too. We have the best shake for health and it tastes good too.

Dare to Compare: Why Jump Shakes?

There are a lot of shakes on the market – yet, none compare to Jump to Health’s Core™ Meal Replacement Shake Mix or Jump V-Pro™ Plant-Based Protein Drink Mixes.

1. Three types of protein – enter the blood stream at different rates to build lean muscle better, curb hunger, boost immune health, fight inflammation.

2. Clinically studied digestive enzymes – help you absorb and use more protein into your lean muscle.

3. Prebiotic Fiber – we have a full serving of fiber. Most companies do not, or they use fillers for fiber. We use a clinically studied prebiotic fiber to help mood, memory, boost probiotics, support digestive health, and more. The ‘gut brain axis’ is an important part of nutrition and science – and all of our products support good gut health.

4. Proprietary Sweetener and Flavor System – Isomaltulose is our sweetener. It has been clinically studied and shown to help Type I and Type II diabetics manage blood sugar, shown to give athletes sustained energy and better performance, and shown to have fat burning properties too.

5. Taste – the shake tastes great, like cake, because of the quality of ingredients. No gritty, cardboard, flavorless shakes here!

6. Cost – save money on groceries, or eating out! A shake with milk is about $2.50 a serving. A sandwich eaten out is about $8 – so if you eat two shakes a week as a meal replacement for lunch instead of eating out - your shakes would be paid for (with enough to spare for additional meals to enjoy for breakfast, lunch or dinner throughout the month). Not to mention you’ll be getting better nutrition, protein, fiber, enzymes, prebiotics and more!

7. And now better ATP, energy, anti-inflammation, more antioxidants, more muscle health – more health benefits.

Do you drink enough water? The importance of hydration

Do You Drink Enough Water? The Importance of Hydration

by Audrey Sommerfeld | Founder & CEO

August 2024

Are you drinking enough water? It's more likely than not that you're part of the 74% who are dehydrated, impacting everything from your appetite to your skin's elasticity. Understanding the critical role water plays in our health is the first step towards improving our hydration habits.

Misinterpreting Our Body's Signals: Thirst vs. Hunger

A surprising 36% of people confuse thirst for hunger, leading to overeating. When you feel an unexpected pang of hunger, try drinking a glass of water first — it might just be your body signaling for hydration, not food.

The Wide-Ranging Benefits of Drinking Water

Drinking water does more than just quench your thirst. It:

  1. Flushes toxins from your system, aiding in detoxification.
  2. Supports digestion by helping break down food and absorb nutrients effectively.
  3. Enhances skin health, reducing fine lines and wrinkles by maintaining skin hydration.
  4. Improves mood and memory functions, as dehydration can affect your brain's performance and mood.
  5. Encourages weight loss by increasing satiety and boosting your metabolism.

Hydrated Skin Equals Youthful Skin

People who drink plenty of water are less likely to show signs of aging like scars, wrinkles, and fine lines. Water's effect on maintaining skin elasticity is profound, offering a simple yet effective anti-aging strategy.

Start Your Day on the Right Note: Hydrate Immediately

Drinking water right after waking up has numerous benefits. Your brain tissue is 75% water, and starting your day hydrated ensures your brain operates at full capacity, preventing fatigue and mood swings.

Scientific Insights on Water's Effect on Metabolism and Calorie Intake

Drinking water can significantly impact your metabolic rate and daily calorie consumption. For instance, one study showed that drinking water before meals could reduce subsequent calorie intake by 13%. Another found that increasing daily water intake could boost metabolism by up to 30%, lasting around 60 minutes and potentially burning an extra 17,000 calories annually, equating to around 5 pounds of fat loss.

Water and Cognitive Performance

Even mild dehydration can impair alertness, concentration, short-term memory, and physical performance. Keeping hydrated is essential not just for your physical health but for your mental well-being too.

Integrating Water Into Your Daily Routine

To effectively integrate more water into your day:

  1. Morning: Start with a glass of water before your coffee or tea.
  2. Mid-Morning: Follow up with water, perhaps with a supplement like Control or PowerOx for added benefits.
  3. Lunch: Drink water to aid digestion and satiety.
  4. Afternoon: A mid-afternoon PowerOx Tea with Fiber Pro can curb hunger, helping you eat less at dinner.
  5. Flavor Your Water: If you need more excitement in your water, try adding natural flavors like lemon, lime, grapefruit, or mint.

By making these changes, you not only enhance your health but also contribute to a sustainable, healthy lifestyle. Remember, the simplest change — increasing your water intake — can have profound effects on your overall well-being. Drink up and transform your health, one sip at a time.

There are a lot of shakes on the market

yet none compare to Jump to Health’s

Core™ Meal Replacement Shake Mix or

Jump V-Pro™ Plant-Based Protein Drink Mixes.

1. Tri-Active Protein Blend– both the Core™ and V-Pro™ Plant shakes have a proprietary Tri-Active protein blend. This is important as they each enter the blood stream at different rates to build lean muscle better.

Core™ uses whey hydrolysate (the most pure and absorbable), whey isolate, and whey concentrate.

V-Pro™ has pea hydrolysate, pea isolate, and pumpkin seed protein. Others don’t offer all three of these…or use only concentrate. With these different amino acid profiles you get higher-quality protein to improve your health (muscle, heart, and more).

2. Clinically studied digestive enzymes – help you absorb and use more protein into your lean muscle. Loss of muscle starts at age 30, and is the #1 reason people enter nursing homes. Lean muscle helps you move, breath, even blink. When you protect your muscles, you protect your health.

Did you know one-pound of lean muscle is the size of a small tangerine? 1 pound of fat is the size of an orange? This is not the case of ‘Less is more’…at a good balance of 12 grams of protein per serving in our shakes,

We bring higher quality and better absorption than those offering higher grams of lower-quality proteins. All are not equal. Consider that you would need at least 35 gr-50 gr of other brands protein sources to get the same benefit as Jump.

3. Clinically Studied Prebiotic Fiber – a full serving of fiber too! Most companies don’t include fiber, or count their thickeners as a fiber source.

We use a prebiotic fiber clinically shown to help mood, memory, boost probiotics, support digestive health, and more.

Other shakes don’t use a full serving of fiber, or a full serving of prebiotic fiber – we do. Bacteria imbalance can lead to weight gain and other health concerns. The ‘gut brain axis’ is an important part of nutrition and science – and all of our products support good gut health.

Prebiotic fiber can be hard to get in diet alone (it’s found in raw asparagus, lots of cooked onion, garlic, chicory root, and bananas). We have the equivalent of the prebiotics that would be found in 1.3 pounds of bananas – in one serving!

4. Fat Burning, Blood Sugar Control, Natural Sweetener– Isomaltulose is our sweetener. It has been clinically studied and shown to help Type I and Type II diabetics manage blood sugar, shown to give athletes sustained energy and better performance, and shown to have fat burning properties too.

Derived from sugar beet, it is natural and processed in a way to not spike insulin. Other companies use fructose (which too much can spike fatty liver disease), or they use crystalline fructose – a form of concentrated, high-fructose corn syrup!

The others don’t use what Jump to Health uses, because it is expensive. Ours is more than 30x more expensive than sugar or fructose. We use it because our mission is “health first”. The FDA is considering allowing us to remove it from the label as a sugar since it does not spike insulin.

5. Taste – our shakes taste great, like birthday cake, because of the quality of ingredients.

And we dare you to compare to other brands – we cost less because our mission is health.

A Calorie is not a Calorie

A Calorie is not a Calorie (see below)

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/6-reasons-why-a-calorie-is-not-a-calorie#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2

Eat less, exercise more – if only it were that simple! We’veheard this for years – so why is it not working? Several reasons – 1 is calories are not just a calorie. The nutrition and density of food impact your weight, hunger, mood, sleep and more. And 2. You cannot out exercise a poor diet.

4 double stuff oreo cookies are 280 calories. To burn that lifting you need to lift weights for an hour and 15 minutes. Or you could run for 25 minutes, or walk for 45-55 minutes. It is not easy to walk off those calories.

Exercise is key for toning, for mood, for helping your metabolism. It is important – but you cannot out exercise a poor diet.

To know how many calories you should eat per day to keep the weight on – take your weight and multiply it by 15. Then to lose weight doctors will tell you to cut 500 calories a day. But – its not just calories that impact weight and health.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/295901

JTH products can help you eat less, cut calories, and boost health. Then we will do a deep dive on nutrition to help you eat healthier, for better blood sugar, better gut health, better brain and overall health.

Now the first thing is to get enough protein. Most people get the bulk of their protein in the evening meal. But for better muscle health, hunger control and weight we need to eat it in each meal and snack. JTH shakes help you do that by giving you easy to digest, perfect amount, and simple and fast protein shakes that are better.

Quick Highlights:

Tri-Active Protein Blend - Three Types of Protein build lean muscle better and curb hunger.

Core: Uses Whey Concentrate, Whey Isolate and Whey hydrolysate (most don’t use all three/only concentrate) oV-Pro: Uses Non-GMO Pea Hydrolysate, Pea Isolate, and Pumpkin Seed Protein (most use simple pea protein)

Clinically Studied Digestive Enzymes make proteins more efficient, and better absorbed (at cellular level) and digested – 60% more than other shakes.

Clinically Studied Prebiotic Fiber boosts mood, digestive health, memory and more.

Proprietary Sweetener and Flavor System helps diabetics manage blood sugar, helps athletes have sustained energy, helps burn fat too. Tastes great! (Derived from sugar beets/not artificial)

Increases mineral absorption in the body 50% more.

This adds up to better health, and better results.

And for about $2.50 a meal when made with fruit and milk – you save money on groceries while boosting your health.

So now lets talk about nutrition and why the types of calories matter – and then how JTH can make it easy for you with our meal plans! We have them for any lifestyle – keto, blood sugar, vegan/vegetarian, simple power of 2 shakes. So many ways that make it simple to get results.

What we eat can impact our hormones, our mood, whether we store a calorie as fat or convert it to sugar. Different foods and macronutrients have a major effect on the hormones and brain centers that control hunger and eating behavior.

Typically when we look at calories – we can look at protein, fat, and carbs. Our body digests them differently, and the impact on blood sugar and weight is different. For example 1 gr of protein is 4 calories, 1 gram of sugar is 4 calories, and 1 gr of fat is 9 calories. So right away people think to get slimmer cut calories and cut fat. But this is not true. Our body will process carbs almost immediately and carbs can turn to fat in the body. Then it goes to protein – it digests slower, and keeps us fuller, yet too much protein in one meal, typically above 30 grams and it can turn to fat in the body. Then fat – fat is digested the slowest and the best part – fat cannot turn to fat in your body. This is one reason if you eat a cream soup – like cream of broccoli – you will feel fuller a lot longer, and often eat a lot fewer calories.

This is also why a true keto program works – when you eat fat you feel fuller, you eat less, and your body cannot turn fat into fat.

And this is where 1 area where keto programs online or in bookstores are wrong. Dr. Steve and I looked at hundreds of plans – and 99% of what we see are not true keto. They do not give you enough fat. The reason why is they base it on % of calories. Yet we just learned fat has almost double the calories of protein and carbs. So if you base it on calories you are not getting enough fat to put you into ketosis and keep you there. And then other keto programs also include vegetables like cooked spinach or tomato sauce – and those convert to sugar in the body -taking you out of ketosis. This is why on so many people gain weight on other keto programs. When you combine fat plus carbs like butter and bread – that is dangerous as you eat a lot of calories and can gain weight. It truly is about eating the right kind of foods together.

This is where our keto plan – called New You In 22 – is different. It is based on Dr. Steve’s PHD that he earned 30 years ago studying keto and fat in the body. He wrote meal plans for people with epilepsy and helped them for years. Then the drug industry introduced anti-convulsant drugs and the diet became less popular. But now we know that fat is good for the brain, it boosts brain function, helps fight inflammation, helps the body create hormones and absorb vitamins. Eat it and you eat fewer calories in the long run. And with New You in 22 – we did all the calculations for you. All the macro’s, micro’s, fat to protein to carbs, to the right carbs. And we provide over 270 recipes for shakes, protein cakes, protein bagels, and breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and desserts that help you lose weight when using our products, and food the whole family can enjoy too.

Now the reason your family can eat these meals is they are healthy, low carb, and it is when you combine the program with the products you get the fastest results. Our average week 1 weight loss on New You in 22 is 6.4 lbs. the first week. In 22 days we had people lose up to 19 lbs. Without hunger, and while detoxing their body from sugars, carbs, chemicals.

If you are not into keto then with the Power of 2 program – you will get enough calories to burn fat, and not be hungry. Some programs I see have people eating 800-1000 calories a day- and this will wreck your metabolism and slow your weight loss, even make you gain weight as the body fights to stay out of starvation mode. So there are many reasons diets do and do not work – and with JTH – our programs were created by PhD Nutritionists – so the products and programs deliver healthy results.

And here is a fun fact – carbs begin to digest in our mouth as the bacteria and enzymes convert carbs to maltodextrin. So our body makes starch out of carbs beginning in our mouth. Protein digestion begins in our stomach where enzymes in the stomach begin to break it down. Although fats leave your stomach more slowly than either carbohydrates or proteins, very little fat digestion occurs in the stomach. Bile from the liver prepares fat for the breakdown by emulsifying it, making it soluble in water.

Now lets talk other foods where a calorie is not a calorie.

Here is one example:

1. Fructose vs Glucose

The two main simple sugars in your diet are glucose and fructose.

Gram for gram, the two provide the same number of calories.

But the way they are metabolized in the body is completely different.

Glucose can be metabolized by all of your body’s tissues, but fructose can only be metabolized by the liver. Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. It goes up when you’re hungry and down after you’ve eaten. One study showed that fructose leads to higher ghrelin levels — that is more hunger — than glucose. Fructose does not stimulate the satiety centers in your brain in the same way as glucose, leading to a reduced feeling of fullness.

Consuming a lot of fructose can cause insulin resistance, abdominal fat gain, increased triglycerides, blood sugar and small, dense LDL compared to the exact same number of calories from glucose

As you can see: the same number of calories — vastly different effects on hunger, hormones and metabolic health.

This is also one reason Jump To Health does not use fructose in our products. Yet so many companies do because we are taught it is low glycemic – it doesn’t spike insulin. But it does other harm and can make you hungrier. And guaranteed the other shakes on the market have fructose or artificial sweeteners.

2. Energy or heat to eat.

Some foods require more energy to digest- which means they digest slower, and don’t impact blood sugar or insulin as easily as other foods.

Studies show that high-protein diets boost metabolism by 80–100 calories per day, compared to lower-protein diets

Put simply, high-protein diets have a metabolic advantage. Yet most people get their protein in their evening meal. We tend to eat muffins, bagels, waffles, cereal, toast, pancakes for breakfast. A salad for lunch and boom – a big steak for dinner. But your body can only absorb so much at once – and what it does not absorb it can convert to fat! That is why so many people failed on the Atkins or fake keto diets- they were not getting the right amount of protein. That is why JTH delivers the right amount, with easier to digest and absorb proteins. Meaning our Core shake which is whey based, or V Pro shake that is plant based a) digest easier, b) build lean muscle better c) taste better and d) get used more efficiently than any other shake. And they have other health benefits for heart, gut, brain, mood, sleep, bones too.

3. Different foods have different effects on satiety. This means some foods will give you a greater feeling of fullness. It’s also much easier to overeat on some foods than others. For example, it may be quite easy to eat 500 calories or more of ice cream, while you’d have to force feed yourself to eat 500 calories of eggs or broccoli.

4. Low carb vs. Low Fat

We have been trained by the food industry to think that fat is bad for us, and that we need to eat low carb. This is one myth that is hard to beat. Yet this myth was created by food industry lobbyists. And it is easy to think about. Low fat foods like bagels, cereal, grains – have a long shelf life. They can last on your cupboard for a long long long time. Fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats do not. And grains are a lot cheaper to grow and sell.

People on a higher fat diet with healthy carbs like vegetables and lower carbs tend to lose twice as much weight as someone on a low fat diet. And many low fat diets actually lead to more weight gain as we ate more starches, more sugar, and wrecked out health.

This is why Jump Core shakes have a healthy lecithin – a type of fat that is really good for your body and your brain. Lecithin is a phospholipid, a compound made of fats and water-soluble chemicals, that is produced in the human liver and found in the brain. Lecithin helps break down cholesterol in the blood.

Lecithin contains choline, which is a chemical your brain uses to communicate. Clinical research suggests that a diet rich in choline can lead to a sharper memory and help people with Alzheimer's. Lipid substances that contain choline, like lecithin, may improve the brain's functional pathways.

Jump shakes use lecithin from flax and sunflower which also contain healthy omega fats for heart health. Other companies use soy lecithin because it is cheaper – and it does not include the omegas that our shake does. This is one more reason we say our Shake That Tastes Like Cake is a health drink – not just for weight loss.

5. The Glycemic Index

The speed at which carb calories hit the system can have a dramatic effect on their potential to cause overeating and weight gain.  There are simple carbs that enter the blood stream fast – like cereal, pasta, bread. These jack up your blood sugar and make you hungrier. If you’ve eaten cereal for breakfast and then were starving two hours later this is why. And this is why restaurants put bread on the table before you order. You eat bread, look at the menu and get hungrier, ordering more and spending more.

So a fun secret is to eat the bread AFTER you have had a few bites of protein. Researchers from Cornell Medical College, found that the order in which different types of food are consumed has a significant impact on glucose and insulin levels. When the vegetables and protein were eaten before the carbohydrates, the researchers found that glucose levels were 29%, 37% and 17% lower at the 30, 60 and 120-minute checks, compared with when carbohydrates were consumed first. Also, insulin was found to be significantly lower when the participants ate vegetables and protein first.

So take a bite of protein, or eat your salad before touching the bread and will impact you less.

6. Fiber reduces calorie absorption

Fiber is a form of carbohydrate that contributes to satiety without contributing calories, because it is not absorbed into the body. Consequently, a 100-calorie high-fiber food will reduce appetite and subsequent eating more than a 100-calorie low-fiber food. Likewise, a person who increases his daily fiber consumption without making any conscious effort to eat less will wind up eating less anyway due to reduced appetite. Thus, a calorie inside a high-fiber food is not equal to a calorie inside a low-calorie food.

7. Protein – kills appetite. Pasta doesn’t’

The protein story doesn’t end with increased metabolism.

It also leads to significantly reduced appetite, making you eat fewer calories automatically.

Studies show that protein is by far the most filling macronutrient

n one study, people who increased their protein intake to 30% of calories, automatically started eating 441 fewer calories per day and lost 11 pounds (4.9 kg) in 12 weeks.

But if you eat pasta – you can eat several hundred calories and not feel full, vs. protein. And pasta will spike blood sugar, protein helps keep it stable.
